August 1, 2026 Birmingham Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and organized GSRP Operational Assistant to support the daily functioning, administration, and compliance of our Great Start Readiness Program focusing on the operational and logistical efficiencies of the classrooms. The ideal candidate will serve as a vital liaison between administration, staff, and families, ensuring seamless program enrollment, efficient inventory management, and strict adherence to state licensing regulations. This position reports to the Early Childhood Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities Program Operations & Communication Stakeholder Liaison:
Facilitate clear and consistent communication between administration, staff, families, and community stakeholders.
Classroom Support:
Conduct regular check-ins on GSRP classrooms to ensure staff have the logistical resources and operational support needed for daily functioning. This may include providing classroom coverage to maintain ratios.
Data & Reporting:
Assist with student data collection, compliance reporting, and program evaluation activities.
Problem Solving:
Address day-to-day operational challenges and implement efficient solutions to improve program effectiveness while serving as the primary liaison between the Supervisor and teaching staff.
Talent Management :
Assist in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, providing ongoing support to Supervisor and staff.
Serve as a primary point of contact for families during the enrollment process, helping navigate registration and maintaining program capacity. Support family engagement efforts and connect families with additional services when needed.
Communication :
Provide clear communication to families regarding program requirements, expectations, and available resources.
Staffing Support:
Assist with the development and management of staff schedules to ensure appropriate classroom ratios and coverage in compliance with licensing.
Ordering & Inventory Manager:
Oversee the ordering, tracking, and distribution of classroom materials, curriculum tools, and essential supplies. Monitor budgets to ensure accurate reporting.
Curriculum Logistics:
Support the physical implementation of curriculum and assessment tools in collaboration with teaching staff.
Stay strictly informed of updates to GSRP policies, state licensing rules, and best practices to ensure all classrooms remain fully compliant.
Professional Development:
Coordinate required meetings, trainings, and professional learning opportunities related to early childhood education to ensure staff complete all requirements to maintain licensing.
Program Success:
Perform other operational duties as assigned to support the overall success and stability of the program.
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field is preferred.
Experience:
Proven experience in early childhood program administration, coordination, or operational support.
Knowledge:
Strong understanding of Michigan state licensing regulations and GSRP requirements.
Skills:
Exceptional organizational, communication, and logistical leadership skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Physical Demands & Work Environment To successfully perform the essential functions of this job, the employee must meet the following physical and environmental requirements:
Mobility & Movement:
Requires high mobility to move frequently and quickly between different district buildings, early childhood classrooms, and outdoor play areas. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and sit on the floor or in small child-sized furniture when working in learning environments.
Physical Stamina:
Must possess the physical stamina to sustain a high level of activity throughout the workday, alternating between stationary administrative desk work and active, on-site classroom coordination.
Lifting & Logistics:
Ability to lift students if necessary, carry, push, or pull classroom materials, supply boxes, and curriculum deliveries weighing up to 50 lbs.
Travel:
Reliable personal transportation is required to travel between various school sites within Birmingham Public Schools.
