Seasonal Position:

Responsible for the overall management of the waterfront activities, serving all programs at Miniwanca in the summer Ensure current risk management practices established by the State of Michigan, American Camping Association and the American Youth Foundation are documented and implemented Directly supervise up to 6 seasonal staff. Ensure other program staff involved in waterfront activities are implementing program within established guidelines and policies. Develop and implement appropriate hard skill training module for waterfront specialists, as well as foster a team approach amongst the waterfront specialists In conjunction with the camp directors, develop and implement appropriate staff training modules focused on the curriculum of the various waterfront activities Train and document all program staff on the risk management policies and procedures associated with waterfront activities. Provide a waterfront orientation to all staff Conduct and document regular emergency drills Manage and maintain the waterfront and boating equipment, recommending retirement or purchases needed to support the programs. Maintain a daily documentation log of waterfront staff observation protocols Produce an end of season report that includes recommendations for program, staffing, equipment, and policy and procedure. Report should include an analysis of any major incidents or unusual occurrences Essential Functions:
(required) Must be in excellent physical condition. You will be required to walk through rugged terrain, able to lift up to 45 pounds, climb with safety gear up to 40 feet in the air, swimming/boating at length in various bodies of water Applicants must have strong emotional health. They will be required to exhibit good judgment, effective problem solving, and maintain calm to safely lead the children in their care under changing and stressful conditions. Be able to maintain focus for extended periods while assessing risks and supervising campers. Able to effectively manage their emotions to remain focused on what is in the best interest of the campers in their care in a variety of situations. Ability to communicate effectively with campers and staff Ability to respond to and direct campers and/or staff in an emergency Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds Ability to maintain a physically and emotionally safe environment for campers Qualifications:
(required) 21 + years old 3-5 years experience supervising waterfront and boating activities Knowledge and experience managing risks associated with the waterfront activities Supervisory skills Current Life guarding (preferably ARC) First Aid and CPR certifications A proven ability to work well with people Must have completed one year of college or equivalent (high school seniors with previous experience may be considered). Strong teaching/facilitating and leadership skills preferred Previous experience working with children, adolescents and/or young adults required Job Type:
