Two or three weeks at a time, depending on program. Course dates can be viewed at: https://www.concordialanguagevillages.org/language-training-center General Work Schedule (days of week): Sunday through Saturday General shift hours: As needed, but generally 9 hours/day between 7:30 AM and 9 PM. This position also requires 20-40 hours of preparation before each course, compensation for which is included in the gross amount noted in the employment offer.Job Summary:
About thePosition:
TheLead Instructorof a Concordia Language Villages Government/Military program is responsible for the development and implementation of a language-specific, two- and three-week-long residential iso-immersion programin accordance with client-specified expectations.This includes:
+ Planning and implementation the program curriculum, + Assisting with staff recruitment and interviewing, + Budget/expense tracking, + Some public relations, and + Interacting with the support staff from operations support areas at the Language Villages. This position is responsible for implementing a program that reflects the mission and immersion methodology of Concordia Language Villages and meets client expectations, all within the parameters of the Concordia military pedagogical model. The lead instructor reports to the Director of External Relations and Strategic Initiatives (who oversees the program), is responsible for managing the instructional team as a cohesive, collaborative team, and interfaces with the CLV administrative team as a whole. We often develop customized language programs for our partners and have offered or proposed programs in languages such as Dari, Croatian, Hebrew, Norwegian, Pashto, Portuguese, Ukrainian, Urdu. Minimum Qualifications:
+ Superior (at minimum) proficiency in the target language/dialects and Advanced(minimum) proficiency English + Commitment to the importance of immersion language and culture education + Knowledge of effective teaching strategies and methodologies for second language learning in an immersion setting for adults + Strong organizational and management skills + Excellent oral and written communication skills + Master's degree required, with advanced degree preferred + Ability to perform the essential functions of the program leader position (see job description) + Availability for all session dates noted in the application + Eligibility to be employed legally in the USA; candidate assumes responsibility and costs for any visa requirements + Sympathy with the mission of a liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church inAmerica Preferred Qualifications:
+ Advanced degree, preferred + Prior experience in intensive iso-immersion training/teaching environments + Understanding of and experience with language proficiency rating scales like the ILR and the OPI + Previous leadership position at Concordia Language Villages or in a comparable language immersion environmentPosition Opening Date:
