WoW Bikes will be a robust, mobile youth bicycling skills program centered around neighborhood-scale bike parties. The WoW Bikes program specialist will serve as the lead for all WoW Bikes events, outreach, and bike instruction. The program specialist will also manage certain administrative and logistical aspects of program delivery, including volunteer and community member communication, equipment and supply management, and transportation.
Essential Functions Essential Functions:
Identify and adapt a youth bicycling curriculum to meet program goals Lead Youth Learn-to-Ride and Skills Instruction in a variety of settings Group facilitation Event Coordination Co-Instructor and Volunteer Coordination Program Outreach and Communication Collaboration and liaising with partners and community members Equipment and supplies management Follow best practices to ensure the safety of participants and co-instructors Create performance metrics and evaluate program Manage program budget, prepare and submit grant reports The successful candidate will also: Carry out job duties in a safe manner in accordance with all Town, department and regulatory policies; follow safety procedures. Identify unsafe situations and work hazards, correct them if possible, and report them to their supervisor Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of:
Current techniques, equipment and materials associated with youth bicycling safety education Understanding of basic bicycle maintenance Ability to: Manage a program with many moving parts Solve problems and make sound decisions Work independently and creatively with minimal supervision Maintain accurate financial records and prepare reports Establish and maintain effective working relationships with multiple stakeholders to facilitate partnerships Communicate effectively orally and in writing Plan, and organize classes, programs, and events for youth Model behaviors that are consistent with our values of RESPECT Experience Experience working with public groups, including diverse, culturally specific, or underserved communities, including children. Experience in bicycle instruction preferred.
Education :
Bachelor's degree preferred
Work Environment:
This work will be performed in a variety of locations in the field. The work can be performed indoors or outdoors.
Physical Demands:
Confidence in riding a bicycle in a variety of contexts is required. This position requires a moderate amount of physical effort. It may include lifting of up to 10 lbs. Some bending, stooping and/or lifting may be required, including set up and take down tables and chairs. Considerable standing and/or walking may be involved.
Certifications:
League Cycling Instructor (LCI) certified or planning to become certified preferred (Town can offer assistance with this). A current certification in CPR/First Aid is required prior to teaching a class. If needed, possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
