Job Description

New Bern Historical Society Program Director Summary of Duties:
The Program Director coordinates and directs all fundraising events and educational programs for the 501(c)(3) nonprofit New Bern Historical Society under the direction of the Executive Director. This role requires passion for local history and service to the New Bern community through the fulfillment of the Society's mission. The Program Director is a vital member of a small staff entrusted to collaborate with members, volunteers, and committees to sustain the highly reputable and successful program schedule established each year.
Key Functions:
Plan and coordinate programs and events including Ghostwalk, Heritage Homes Tour, Hallowed Ground Lantern Tour, Battlefield Adventure Day and living history programs, educational programs and presentations, volunteer and member events, virtual programs and other special events. Establish and monitor event timelines, staff actions, and volunteer activities Coordinate event venues, vendors, speakers/presenters, and participants (actors, homeowners, volunteers, guides, ticket sellers, etc) Lead and/or chair volunteer event planning committees Prepare event related materials (letters, invitations, posters, flyers, etc.) Conduct post-event activities including after-action reviews, reports, and thanks Plan for and manage event/program photos Prepare email campaigns for event updates Work with Marketing Chair on event marketing, including social media, website, news outlets, and newsletters Assist Director with networking at civic, business, and social events to promote NBHS programs and soliciting sponsorship Report to Board of Directors on program development and outcomes Assist Executive Director and Finance Committee with budget review and preparation
Required Job Skills:
Strong project management and organizational skills Strong computer skills; fluent in Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Excel Strong working knowledge of social media Familiarity with multimedia and AV equipment
Soft Skills:
Passion for Historical Society mission Strong people skills -- able to relate well with members, volunteers, board members, and guests. Tactful and courteous under pressure.
