Videos Duties Help Serve as installion (region as applicable) School Liaison Officer (SLO) as subject mter expert and representive for issues involving schools (K-12) and their relionships to the community. Responsible for leading the integrion of military children into local school systems. Receives and processes complaints from installion personnel and their family members regarding area schools and refer into approprie agency. Develop actions plans for accomplishment of community/school support goals. Plan, develop and coordine joint installion/community/school activities. Primary installion advisor to commanders, installion leaders, parents and educors on all educion mters impacting military associed children in grades K-12. Subject mter expert to Installion Commander and key installion staff on all mters reling to schools (K-12). Coordine the integrion of all installion activities reling to mters of concern to commanders, parents, students, and local school officials. Establish an interchange of ideas and issues among installion personnel, local community leaders, civic groups, etc. concerning problems in local schools th may negively impact the installion activities. Represent the Installion Commander on school boards, councils, and advisory groups. Meet regularly with school principals, teachers, guidance counselors, superintendents and other school staff. Serve as the installion point of contact for home school issues and initiives. Evalue local media to identify potential problems and works with installion public affairs on methods to resolve them. Function as an intermediary and advoce between parents, school administrors and installion child and youth programs. Attend installion meetings (Town Hall) and presents concerns, solutions, and suggestions to school officials. Assist parents with locing points of contact in the schools and makes referrals as approprie. Maintain resource merials to assist parents in understanding the policies and procedures of local schools. Provide assistance as needed in school enrollment and in/out processing. Educe parents on how to be the best advoce for their child's educion. Inform installion leadership and parents about the importance of Impact Aid to schools. Participe in all installion relocion assistance efforts (Newcomer Oriention, Youth Sponsorship). Cree and maintain collaborive partnerships with relevant installion and community organizions (e.g., Fleet & Family Support, Child & Youth Programs, chaplains, medical, EFMP, military/civilian personnel offices, military units). Inform local school officials on base programs, policies, and activities. Write news releases, fact sheets, base newspaper articles, flyers, and feure articles to help educe the base populion regarding school programs and policies. Plan, coordine, and conduct installion tours and orientions for school administrors. Prepare and present briefings to installion personnel about school issues. Maintain records and stistics, such as number of volunteer hours devoted to school activities and other da necessary to support program evaluion. Performs administrive duties reled to school liaison officer program. Maintains program informion and prepares a variety of reports or feeder informion as required. Establish and maintain suspense des in order to submit required documention for programs and follow-up as approprie. Prepares, distributes, and tabules needs assessments to determine the educional needs of the military community. Complete required documention and ensures informion such as public, prive and home school informion are available for review by installion leadership or for briefings to installion populions. Develops an annual budget, projects and monitors program expenditures. Requirements Help Conditions of employment Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verificion check. Ability to complete required training certifices, and maintain certificions or credentials required by Federal, Ste, and/or nional accredition institutions used as part of DoD's Child and Youth Programs. Qualificions Resumes must include informion which demonstres experience and knowledge, skills, and ability (KSAs) as they rele to this position. Applicants are encouraged to be clear and specific when describing their experience level and KSAs. A qualified candide possesses the following: A minimum of three years' specialized experience AND reled degree OR a combinion of educion and experience. Knowledge of CYP School Transition Program policies, regulions, and procedures. Knowledge of the Navy operional organizional structure, chain of command, and particularly as it reles to the CYP. Knowledge and understanding of Navy philosophy, goals, vision, policy and programs reling to CYP issues of military members. Oral and written briefing skills with knowledge of techniques and forms for effective communicion to installion level leadership. Knowledge of research methodology, informion retrieval and da organizion for analysis, decision making, and formulion of recommendions. Research methods include interviews, focus groups, working groups, surveys and da search. Educion A minimum of three year's experience working with school personnel, students and parents, i.e., School Liaison Officer, CYP Manager, educion or academic leader/counselor. AND Successful completion of a 4 year college or university degree with a major course of study or substantial course work which directly reles to a CYP field: early childhood, elementary educion, secondary educin, special educion, child development, youth development, psychology, youth program administrion, or a closely reled field. OR A combinion of educion and experience - courses equivalent to a major in a field (24 hours) approprie to the position (see above), plus approprie experience or additional course work th provided knowledge comparable to th normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.
