HANAC, Inc. - originally founded by George Douris as the Hellenic American Neighborhood Action Committee - is a New York City-based multi-faceted social services organization. The organization was founded in 1972 to serve the needs of vulnerable populations throughout New York City. The Program Coordinator will work closely with the Program Director and Asst. Program Director to assist in the overall leadership, coordination, and daily management of HANAC Inc's Summer Rising program. Serving a diverse student population in Corona, Queens the coordinator assist and ensured the delivery of high-quality academic enrichment, youth development, and recreational programming in alignment with HANAC policies and Procedures, OCFS regulations, NYCPS instructional components and DYCD enrichment standards. This role is critical in maintaining a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive environment while ensuring compliance with all city agency requirements and HANAC's mission to support underserved communities. Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Program Leadership team in overseeing all aspects of program operations serving approximately 240 elementary school age participants.
  • Assist in Developing and managing a structured daily schedule integrating DOE-led academics and HANAC-led enrichment activities
  • Ensure programming aligns with Summer Rising core areas: o Academic enrichment and literacy o Community building and leadership o Health, wellness, and physical activity o Arts and STEM-based enrichment
  • Support the development and implementation of engaging, culturally responsive lesson plans
  • Assist in supervising a team of group leaders, activity specialists, and support staff
  • Conduct regular observations and provide coaching to ensure high-quality instruction and youth engagement
  • Maintain staff accountability, including attendance, performance, and adherence to HANAC and school policies
  • Work closely with program admin team to ensure full compliance with HANAC, DYCD, OCFS, and NYCPS policies, including: o Daily attendance tracking and data entry o Incident reporting and safety protocols o Proper staff-to-student ratios
  • Oversee safe arrival, dismissal, and transitions throughout the school day
  • Maintain accurate documentation including rosters, emergency contacts, and timesheets
  • Ensure all classrooms and activity spaces are safe, organized, and conducive to learning
  • Foster strong relationships with families through regular communication, orientation sessions, and events
Key Skills & Qualifications:
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Ability to manage a large, fast-paced program (100+ students)
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and attendance/data systems (e.g., DYCD Connect)
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Youth Development, or related field preferred
  • Minimum 2-3 years of supervisory experience in after-school, summer camp, or DYCD Funded programs.
  • Experience working in NYC public schools or DYCD-funded programs strongly preferred
  • Experience working with diverse, multilingual communities.
