Job Description

Camp Blue Bay located on Long Island in East Hampton, New York, has been owned and operated by Girl Scouts of Nassau County (GSNC) as a summer camp since 1947. With its spacious 179 acres, beautiful beachfront on Gardiner's Bay and scenic trails, Camp Blue Bay offers campers a variety of experiences. Camp Blue Bay also hosts a wide variety of outdoor experiences and programs at other times of the year. We are seeking a part time Outdoor Program Specialist to work closely with the Director, Camping Experiences supporting outdoor education, facilitating programs, and creating opportunities for girls ages 5-17 to learn, grow, and connect with nature. The PT Outdoor Program Specialist will serve as the weekend on-site staff, supporting groups during their camping experience. Some weekday evenings are required.
Growth Opportunity:
Candidates interested in a larger seasonal role may have the opportunity for full-time employment during the summer season at Camp Blue Bay. Key Responsibilities Manage the end-to-end preparation for all weekend programs. This includes sourcing, ordering, and organizing supplies (e.g., craft materials, archery equipment, cooking supplies) to ensure everything is on-site and ready before groups arrive. Monitor registration lists via internal systems. Conduct pre-event "audit" calls or emails to confirm final attendance numbers, dietary restrictions, and special accommodations. Act as the lead facilitator during weekend sessions, transitioning from "prep mode" to "execution mode" by guiding troops through the prepped activities. Responsible for managing the camp store including sales, managing inventory, restocking, and maintaining a clean, organized retail environment. Provide volunteers with the prepped materials and clear "run-of-show" instructions to ensure they can lead their assigned stations effectively. Provide on-site support to Troops/Groups and Service Units while on property. Coordinate with the Camp Ranger to ensure physical spaces (tent units, fire pits, indoor classrooms) are staged with the necessary equipment and materials prior to the start of a program. Provide support for special Council and Department events as needed. Other Responsibilities Optimize the use of technology, including internal systems & Social Media in providing customer service support for volunteers and members. Represent the council to the public in the area of camper and staff recruitment Able to troubleshoot, address any last minute gaps, such as supply needs, changes in attendance or weather responses. Understand risk management in an outdoor setting, ensuring all activities comply with Safety Activity Checkpoints, Dept of Health and American Camp Association. Perform other related duties as assigned. Skills & Qualifications Minimum, Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and three to four years of progressively responsible related experience, or any combination of education, training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Demonstrated successful experience working with adults and children Exceptional customer service skills, attention to detail. Computer literacy, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, and familiarity with current social media tools. Effectively convey information, thoughts, and ideas in verbal and written form, including deliver effective presentations in a variety of situations and to diverse groups of people. Successfully adapt to new situations and changes as necessary. Ability to work and solve problems independently. Previous Girl Scout experience a plus but not required. Ability to work a flexible schedule, primarily weekends and some evenings, three to four events in Nassau County throughout the year Valid driver's license and/or reliable transportation for travel to off-site locations as necessary. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs., walk moderate distances, sit and/or stand for varying periods of time and work in the outdoors. Trained or willing to be trained in CPR/First Aid, Archery, and the Ropes Course if needed. Prior experience is a plus but not required, but training will be provided. Comfortable working in both indoor and outdoor camp settings, which may include rustic facilities, limited technology, exposure varied weather conditions, and the presence of wildlife and insects. $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
