Program Specialist
  • Counselor.
Description:
Are you energetic, enthusiastic, and passionate about making a difference in the lives of youth? Join our summer team and help bring the excitement of Scouting programs to youth throughout the City of Rochester. As a Program Specialist also known as Camp Counselor, you will lead hands-on activities and outdoor experiences that help young people build confidence, character, leadership skills, and lasting memories. No prior Scouting experience is required, just a positive attitude, reliability, and a passion for working with youth. Opportunities for year-round, in school contract positions are available for school-based programs.
Essential Functions:
Program site duties include but not limited to.
  • Creating and maintaining a positive, safe, and welcoming learning environment.
  • Leading engaging weekly programs using provided program guides and materials.
  • Creating and maintaining a positive relationship with site officials.
  • Working independently while adapting to a flexible and non-traditional schedule.
  • Communicating effectively with supervisors and fellow staff members.
  • Encouraging youth participation through fun, outdoors, and hands-on experiences.
  • Assisting with additional program-related duties as needed.
Schedule and Program Information:
  • Must be available primarily between 9am
  • 5pm, Monday-Friday.
  • Assignments may range from 1-10 weeks, depending on partner organization schedules.
  • Daily shifts typically range from 3-6 hours per day.
  • Number of assigned sites varies according to your availability.
Required Qualifications:
  • 18 years of age to apply. 21 years of age to apply as a Lead Counselor.
  • Candidates are required to have a reliable mode of transportation
  • Previous Scouting experience is helpful but not required.
  • Must complete required BSA online and/or in-person training.
  • Must be willing to complete and pass a background check
Compensation and Benefits:
  • Up to 20 hours per week
  • Pay range: $16.50
  • $17.50 per hour.
