Full Job Description After-School Program Coordinator/Assistant Location:
St. Matthew's Church, 4110
River Road, Eugene, Oregon Program Schedule:
Wednesdays, 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM (approximately 5-6 hours per week including preparation and clean up)
Compensation:
$25 per hour (coordinator), $20 per hour (assistant)

Through end of 2026-27 school year About the Program St. Matthew's Church is seeking enthusiastic and responsible leaders for our free after-school program for elementary students. Thanks to a grant from the Episcopal Diocese of Western Oregon, we provide a safe, engaging, and enriching environment for approximately 20 students each Wednesday afternoon. While the program is hosted at our church, it is not faith-based and welcomes all students from the community. Position Overview The After-School Activity Coordinator will be responsible for creating and implementing a fun, safe, and structured after-school experience for elementary-aged children. This role involves planning age-appropriate activities, administering snacks, supervising students as well as two adult assistants, managing program logistics, communicating with parents as needed, and ensuring the wellbeing of all participants. The assistants help lead and execute program activities, administer snacks, setup before and clean up after the program. Key Responsibilities Plan and execute engaging activities for approximately 20 elementary students during a 4-hour program period (1:45-5:45) Coordinate with other staff members Walk students safely from Awbrey Park Elementary to St. Matthew's Church (0.3 miles) Create a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment for all students Collaborate with church staff to manage program budget for supplies and snacks Maintain accurate attendance records and communicate with families as needed Ensure all safety protocols are followed throughout the program Adapt activities to meet the diverse needs and interests of students Required Qualifications Prior experience working with elementary-aged children in an educational, recreational, or childcare setting Demonstrated ability to plan and facilitate engaging activities for children Strong organizational and time-management skills Excellent communication skills with children, families, and team members Ability to pass a comprehensive background check At least two references from previous work with children Desired Qualifications Experience supervising other staff or volunteers (coordinator) First Aid/CPR certification Knowledge of age-appropriate games, crafts, and educational activities Experience working with diverse groups of children Additional Requirements Attendance at a required, paid Safety Training session provided by the church Physical ability to actively engage with children and respond to emergencies Flexibility and problem-solving skills to handle unexpected situations To Apply Please submit a resume, cover letter describing your experience working with children, and contact information for at least two professional references.
