The Education Navigator assists youth furthest from opportunity in accessing and navigating crucial support services for education, career development, financial stability, mental health services, and more. This person supports youth referred from Connected Lane County's Spark, Excelerator, and Elevate programs during Drop-In hours and maintains a regular physical presence supporting in-school youth at Al Kennedy, Network Charter, Kalapuya, and other alternative high schools. We are looking for someone enthusiastic about our mission, passionate about helping youth succeed, and who brings a strong growth mindset. The ideal candidate enjoys working directly with youth to help them overcome barriers, works well in a team setting, and brings a creative approach to solving problems.DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES
Mentor and coach youth in completing their education pathways at Al Kennedy, Network Charter, Kalapuya, or through Lane Community College. Be physically present in the schools, at least one day per week per school, to engage youth and provide ongoing services. Travel between schools is required and mileage is reimbursable. Regularly staff Drop-In hours at Connected Lane County's Spark locations as scheduled. Serve as the Education Navigator and trusted adult for assigned youth. Conduct intake meetings with youth to complete needs assessment and education support plans. Support youth in GED completion and/or accessing post-secondary options by providing support with FAFSA and scholarship applications, connecting with university or community college campus tours, and campus services for new incoming students. Assist youth in accessing workforce development opportunities such as internships and job shadows. Assist youth in accessing employment services, including resume and interview preparation, completing job applications, and developing general employment skills. Assist youth in accessing social and government resources as appropriate. Support youth accessing or attending community events focused on career exploration or post-secondary opportunities. Assist youth in accessing services and support to develop life skills such as financial literacy, time management, and cooperation. Document support services utilizing various databases in a timely and detail-oriented manner. Collect service data for reports regarding activities and monitor the program's continuous improvement, as assigned. Serve as the organizational alternate point of contact for the RAN Alert system. Attend team meetings and training as required. Perform other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience An associate's degree or more than two years of advanced education/experience in education or social services is preferred. At least one year of successful experience working in a public school or community setting with underserved youth related to employment readiness and/or transition to post-secondary education opportunities. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of education, health, and available social services is preferred. Well-developed communication skills (both oral and written) and courtesy are required to develop and maintain positive relationships with diverse youth populations and internal and external stakeholders. Ability to effectively engage with diverse individuals in a culturally appropriate manner. Initiative and ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Ability to creatively problem-solve and try new approaches. Proficiency with Google Suite is preferred. A valid Oregon driver's license or the ability to obtain one by the hire date is required. A First Aid/CPR card is preferred. Must be willing to undergo a background check. Spanish-speaking bilingual candidates are preferred.WORKING AT CONNECTED LANE COUNTY
