Make an Impact Through Nature-Based EducationThe City of Hillsboro Parks & Recreation Department is seeking a Nature Program Coordinator to help bring environmental education to life for our community. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys connecting people to nature, creating engaging programs, and working in a dynamic, community-focused environment.

You'll play a key role in developing and delivering hands-on programs for participants of all ages—from youth camps and school groups to adult workshops and community events. This position blends program coordination, customer interaction, and on-site operational support, all within the unique setting of Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve.

Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve is a 635-acre wildlife preserve that offers environmental education, habitat conservation, and outdoor recreation opportunities. The team is dedicated to connecting people with water, wildlife, and the natural world through meaningful, inclusive experiences.

Position OverviewAs the Nature Program Coordinator, you will support the planning, coordination, and delivery of environmental education programs and community engagement efforts. You'll work closely with staff, volunteers, and community members while also helping ensure smooth day-to-day operations at the Nature Center.

This position regularly interacts with the public and includes onsite leadership responsibilities, particularly on Saturdays.

What You'll Be DoingCoordinate and deliver nature-based programs, including camps, classes, scout programs, and workshopsSupport development and implementation of new and existing environmental education programsOversee birthday party packages and assist with program logistics and schedulingServe as a primary point of contact for program participants, providing excellent customer serviceAssist with outreach events and community engagement effortsSupport recruitment, coordination, and guidance of volunteers and part-time educatorsMonitor and manage program supplies, materials, and equipmentProvide operational oversight of the facility and staff during assigned shifts (including Saturdays)Current & Upcoming ProjectsExpanding and enhancing environmental education programming for youth and adultsSupporting community events and outreach opportunities that increase public engagementAssisting with volunteer program coordination and trainingPartnering with the Nature Program Supervisor to evaluate and improve program offeringsServing as a key point of contact for weekend operations at the Nature CenterWhat You'll Need to SucceedWe're looking for someone who is approachable, organized, and passionate about environmental education and community engagement.

Bilingual Incentive Pay AvailableEmployees who can demonstrate the ability to speak Spanish, ASL, or any other language spoken by over 10% of the City residents as documented by the most recent U.S. Census, will receive a monthly 3% premium pay. The incentive is only paid on hours in paid status. Proficiency will be determined by a City-administered test.
