DESCRIPTION
General Statement of Duties :
Plans, organizes, and oversees all program activities at a program site; does related work as required. Distinguishing Features of the
Class :
An employee in this classification is responsible for the day-to-day operations of a District program at a program site. Work is performed under the guidance of a coordinator and the supervision of a Supervisor who reviews work primarily on the basis of results attained, feedback from participants and parents, and direct observation. Supervision is not normally a responsibility of positions in this classification. However, incumbents are responsible for overseeing the work of Activity Leaders working at the site.
Examples of Essential Duties Performed:

Leads patrons on planned, recreational trips. Responsible for the overall safety and security of program participants. Plans, schedules, and implements programs and events. Acts as on-site lead, including assigning and reviewing work, providing input to performance evaluations, and providing work assistance as required. Orders and/or purchases necessary supplies and food through district ordering process. Maintains appropriate records and prepares reports related to programs and activities including budget estimates, attendance records, and expense and revenue reports. Handles disciplinary problems with program participants. Administers first aid and responds to emergencies as required. Responds to a variety of questions, concerns, and/or complaints from parents, staff, and program participants. Reports cases of suspected child abuse to supervisor and contacts Services to Children and Families as necessary. Safely drives and supervises patrons in a district vehicle. Performs additional job-related duties or tasks as required.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge :
Some knowledge of behavior management and discipline of participants; planning and implementing recreational and educational activities; record keeping.
Skills :
The administration of basic first aid and CPR; leading activities for patrons.
Abilities :
Effective verbal and written communication; work successfully with patrons, external organizations, and/or staff; work independently; act calmly and effectively in emergency situations; deal effectively with behavioral problems; assign and review the work of others; maintain records and prepare accurate reports. Physical Demands of the
Position :
The employee will frequently be required to stand and be mobile for over 70% of the work period. While performing the duties of this position the employee will frequently be required to crouch or kneel and seldom be required to bend and twist. Physical exertion and coordination is occasionally required to lift materials up to 30 pounds such as activity materials, snack foods, furniture etc. The position requires the use of arms, wrists, and hands, including manual dexterity and coordination, for the vast majority of the work period. The employee is occasionally required to use a step stool and reach above the head and shoulder. In performing the essential duties of this position, the employee will spend over 70% of the work period indoors and the remainder outdoors, thus exposure to heat in summer is likely. Exposure to loud noise is low, and never requires ear protection. Persons with disabilities may be able to perform the essential duties of this class with reasonable accommodation. Personal Protective Equipment :
Access to nitrile gloves for the administration of first aid. Protective eye protection when needed. Proper disposal equipment (biohazard bags, etc)
Required Experience and Training :
High school graduation or equivalency and two years of experience in an ongoing group setting such as a recreation program, classroom, or community center; or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the above-described duties. Preferred Ex perience and
Training :
Spanish speaking is preferred; a bilingual rate adjustment is contingent upon passing a proficiency test.
Necessary Special Requirements :
Minimum age for this position is 18 years old. Possession of or ability to obtain current first aid and CPR certificates; possession of or ability to obtain an Oregon Food Handler Permit and Oregon Alcohol Service Permit; possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license; safe driving record and patron driver certification within one month of hire.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Hours/Shift This position will work variable hours based on trips and programming schedule, including weekends regularly, and will be responsible for driving district vehicles and community members to regional trip and hike locations. Shifts will last up to 12 hours; typical trip locations are within a 3-hour radius. Oregon driver's license and clean driving history required. Must be a patron driver. Drug Free Workplace This job is considered safety sensitive, a drug screen test and ability to pass a criminal background check will be required prior to employment. Paid sick leave beginning with date of hire, 1 hour accrual for every 30 hours worked. Part-time staff may use sick leave beginning on their 91st day of employment.
