Program Overview:
The Sallie Mae Internship program seeks to attract and develop exceptional early talent while adding value to our organization. Our goal is to tie academic learning into a practical business setting while fostering professional and personal growth within a student's area of focus. Over the course of the semester, interns will gain exposure to senior leaders, attend meetings, work alongside mentors, and receive valuable performance feedback. What You'll Contribute As an intern on the Loss Mitigation team, you will play a meaningful role in advancing the analyses and operational processes that enable Sallie Mae to effectively manage payment assistance programs and credit losses. You'll gain hands‑on experience in risk management, forecasting, and program performance evaluation while partnering with analysts and senior leaders across the organization.
What You'll Do Analyze and Monitor Program Strategies:
Support the evaluation, tracking, and documentation of loss mitigation strategies, drawing insights from ongoing credit initiatives and payment assistance programs.
Develop Performance Reporting:
Assist in preparing loss, delinquency, and program performance reports—including trend analyses and early‑warning indicators that help inform strategic updates.
Enhance Program and Forecasting Capabilities:
Support continuous improvements to loss forecasting and program management using insights from evolving repayment strategies and regulatory guidance. Contribute to
Forecasting Activities:
Help execute established forecasting processes by validating data inputs, running models, and troubleshooting analytical outputs to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Investigate Key Risk Drivers:
Participate in root‑cause analyses of loss and delinquency trends through data exploration, coding logic reviews, and scenario testing aligned with the team's analytical framework.
Improve Automation and Reporting:
Assist with enhancements to dashboards, data pipelines, and documentation, including mapping program behaviors and decision‑tree logic.
Collaborate Across Teams:
Work with cross‑functional partners to ensure program changes are clearly communicated, implemented, and tracked within Loss Mitigation's structured governance framework. What You Have:
Minimum education, skills and experience required.
Education:
Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university Open to rising Seniors, Graduate students Maintains a GPA of 3.0 or higher
Experience:
Available to work up to 40 hours per week between 6/08/26 and 8/29/2026 -
Summer Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong communication skills Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills with individuals at all levels. Excellent administrative skills including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and web-based applications. Strong follow through and multi-tasking skills, and attention to detail. Local candidates required (hybrid) Strong analytical skills in SQL and SAS. Working experience in Server based environment such AWS Cloud, Teradata, Snowflakes Better having experience in reporting tool such as Power BI and Tableau.
