  • Reports to the Principal Investigator/Executive Director.
The Co-Investigator (Co-I) at SEAHEC will support the implementation, coordination, and operational management of community-led research project(s) under Proyecto Juntos. This role is responsible for ensuring the day-to-day execution of research and programmatic activities, supporting community engagement efforts, and maintaining alignment with funder requirements and SEAHEC's mission. The Co-I will work collaboratively with the PI/Project Director, SEAHEC staff, and partners to translate research into actionable, community-informed strategies. This position will also provide support to SEAHEC's evaluation efforts across additional projects as needed.
Responsibilities/duties:
Project Implementation & Coordination:
Support day-to-day implementation of community-led research project(s), ensuring timelines, deliverables, and activities are completed in alignment with project goals and funder requirements.
Research Program Administration:
Assist in coordinating research activities, including participant recruitment, data collection processes, and documentation. Support development and maintenance of project plans, timelines, and tracking tools.
Collaboration & Partnership Coordination:
Serve as a key liaison between SEAHEC, community partners, and academic collaborators to ensure effective communication, coordination of activities, and alignment across partners.
Community Engagement Support:
Work closely with Community Health Workers (CHWs) and partners to support outreach, engagement, and facilitation of community-led activities such as Health Research Assemblies (HeRAs), focus groups, and other participatory methods.
Data Support & Reporting:
Assist with compiling, organizing, and analyzing program and research data. Support the development of progress reports, funder reports, and other documentation. Contribute to dissemination of findings through presentations, community reports, and other communication channels.
Evaluation Support:
Provide support to SEAHEC's broader evaluation efforts across programs, including data tracking, analysis, and reporting as needed.
Manuscript Development & Research Translation:
Support the development and writing of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and assist in translating research findings into actionable strategies for community and program implementation.
Operational & Administrative Support:
Provide high-level administrative support to ensure smooth project operations, including scheduling meetings, coordinating logistics, and maintaining project documentation.
Sustainability Planning:
Work alongside the PI/Project Director to support development of a sustainability plan for Proyecto Juntos, including identifying future funding opportunities, partnerships, and strategies to sustain program impact beyond the grant period.
Mentorship & Team Support:
Support and mentor project staff, interns, and students involved in research activities. Help build capacity among CHWs and staff in research-related processes.
Compliance & Ethical Support:
Assist in ensuring project activities adhere to IRB protocols, ethical guidelines, and participant confidentiality standards.
Budget & Resource Coordination:
Support tracking of project expenditures and resource needs in coordination with the PI/Project Director and SEAHEC leadership.
Core SEAHEC Job Functions/Competencies:
  • Support other SEAHEC projects and initiatives.
  • Represent SEAHEC at meetings, events and other forums.
  • Participate and/or coordinate existing community health coalitions/activities as requested/needed.
  • Work consistently toward SEAHEC mission, contributing to program and policy development.
  • Collaborate with community partners.
  • Collaborate in production of SEAHEC quarterly and annual reports including compilation of statistical and narrative program information under guidance of Executive Director.
  • Other tasks as required by Executive Director.
Qualifications:
Education :
Ph.D., DrPH, or Master's degree in Public Health, or related field with significant research experience.
Experience :
Minimum of 3 years of experience in public health programming, community-based research, and/or research coordination. Experience in mental and behavioral health and working with rural, border, and/or underserved communities required
Skills :
Proven ability to write successful grant proposals. Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with diverse communities. Experience in community-based participatory research (CBPR) is preferred.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish oral and written proficiency
  • Reliable transportation and willing to travel to border communities in Mexico as needed
  • Experience in working with rural, border and/or other underserved communities.
Position Distinction (PI vs. Co-Investigator): While the Principal Investigator/Project Director leads the overall research design, strategy, and scientific direction of the project, the Co-Investigator focuses on implementation, coordination, dissemination, and operationalization of project activities, ensuring successful execution and long-term sustainability of community-led research efforts.
Funding Statement:
This position is contingent upon continued grant funding.

$65,000.00
