Job Description
The mission of the Idaho Council on Developmental Disabilities is to promote the capacity of people with developmental disabilities and their families to determine, access, and direct the services and/or support they need to live the lives they choose and to build the community's ability to support their choices. •

The Idaho Council on Developmental Disabilities (ICDD) believes that people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (ID/DD) should have access to fully participate in all aspects of community life. We are hiring two Developmental Disability Program Specialists at the ICDD! The preferred location for both positions is at our Boise office location and is anticipated to begin work in August. This position may be eligible for telework. Approval to telecommute is not guaranteed and subject to termination at any time.Who We Are & What We Do:
The Governor appoints the 23 Idahoans to Council membership who have statewide representation to serve on the ICDD. Most are people with ID/DD and family members. Other members are representatives of agencies and groups that work for people with disabilities. Council members are people who have exceptional insight into the obstacles that face people with ID/DD throughout their lives. Our Council members direct and oversee the work of the Council. People with ID/DD face a long list of systemic barriers when it comes to accessing quality inclusive education, integrated employment, accessible and affordable transportation and housing, inclusive recreation, faith communities that are inclusive and welcoming of all members of the congregation, and quality health care. Working as a Council we continue to discover and promote creative ways that leaders with lived experience (people with ID/DD), families, service agencies and federal, state and local governments can work together so people can live independent, fulfilling lives. The successful applicant will be required to complete a criminal history background investigation. Employment is dependent upon satisfactory results of the investigation.BENEFITS

Knowledge/experience honoring and engaging the need for people with ID/DD to be in charge of their own lives. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing professionally, effectively, and in a clear and concise manner. These skills will be used to write reports, create social media, create and provide presentations, conduct training, lead workgroups, support the leadership development of people with ID/DD and family members, provide public comments, and host public forums. Demonstrated commitment to the principle(s) of Independent Living and self-directed decision-making. Experience engaging persons with diverse life experiences and perspectives in decision-making and advocacy activities. Ability to exercise leadership internally within the organization and externally on behalf of and with individuals with ID/DD. Considerable knowledge and background about advocacy, public policy, state legislation, and the activities of state agencies which administer the systems and/or advocate for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. It is highly recommended to attach a one-page cover letter to your application to demonstrate how you meet the requirements below. Considerable knowledge of developmental disabilities and rehabilitation. Good knowledge of DD programs and related Public Laws 99-457 "Individuals with Disabilities Education Act" Title 20, sec 1499 and 101-496 "Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 1990" Title 42, sec 6000 et seq., U.S.C.A. Experience providing, monitoring and evaluating professional developmental disabilities services. These minimum qualifications are typically gained by completed upper division college coursework in DD and rehabilitation (such as that gained by QMRPs, special education teachers, nurses, speech/language pathologists, OTs, PTs); AND at least one year of professional experience: developing and implementing client rehabilitation plans; OR providing/ utilizing a variety of DD programs (or components such as plans, goals, budgets, policies, etc.); OR providing/ monitoring/ evaluating DD services for infants, toddlers, adults and family units to comply with rules, regulations, laws, or policies; OR experience providing DD technical assistance to professional staff; OR certification as a QMRP. Program experience could include special education, habilitation, housing, vocational, transportation, recreation, early intervention or disability-related experience. Experience could be gained under supervision or in a practicum, or community experience utilizing DD services in a leadership or advocacy role. Below is preferred experience. It is not required for the position but applicants with this experience may receive consideration over other applicants. Proficient in writing and speaking English and Spanish for one DD Program Specialist. Considerable knowledge of intellectual and developmental disabilities, including issues and systems that affect the ability of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live independently and productively in an integrated community. Typically gained by at least 5 years' experience typically gained by being a person with an Intellectual or Developmental Disability, being the family member of a person with an Intellectual or Developmental Disability, being a special educator, working for a disability advocacy organization, a disability service provider, or state agency that serves the disability community, working as a support broker or targeted service coordinator, working as a qualified intellectual and developmental disability professional, or working for a social justice organization.
