Job Description
The English Learner (EL) Coordinator serves as an instructional leader and program manager responsible for ensuring that students identified as English Learners receive equitable access to high-quality instruction and support services. This role provides direct and indirect support to teachers, administrators, students, and families to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while improving student achievement and language acquisition outcomes. Key Responsibilities Program Leadership & Compliance Oversee implementation of the school's EL program (ESL, bilingual, newcomer supports). Ensure compliance with Title III, state policies, and EL program requirements. Maintain accurate documentation for audits, student records, and reporting. Coordinate EL program reviews and support school/district audits. Student Identification & Services Manage identification, screening, placement, and reclassification of EL students. Monitor EL student progress in English proficiency and academic performance. Develop individualized service plans aligned to proficiency levels and graduation pathways. Ensure students receive appropriate accommodations for instruction and state testing. Instructional Support & Coaching Support and coach teachers in implementing effective EL instructional strategies. Model lessons and provide feedback aligned to English Language Proficiency (ELP) standards. Collaborate with content teachers to differentiate instruction and scaffold learning. Participate in Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) and data meetings. Assessment & Data Management Coordinate administration of English language proficiency assessments (e.g., ELPT). Analyze student data to inform instruction, interventions, and program effectiveness. Monitor growth and ensure data-driven decision-making across the school. Professional Development Provide ongoing training to staff on EL strategies, compliance, and language supports. Ensure teachers working with EL students are properly trained and certified. Share best practices and updates on state and federal EL policies. Family & Community Engagement Facilitate communication with EL families using translation and interpretation services. Lead parent meetings regarding EL services, progress, and educational options. Promote family engagement aligned with Louisiana EL framework expectations. Collaboration & Coordination Serve as liaison between school leadership, teachers, families, and district personnel. Coordinate with counselors on graduation planning and course placement. Work with testing coordinators to ensure proper accommodations and scheduling. Qualifications Possess a valid Louisiana Teacher certification or should meet minimum certification requirements for a Teacher as outlined in the Louisiana DOE Bulletin 746 and CSAL, Inc. school board requirements are as they exist at the time of hire. Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred). Bilingual or multilingual proficiency (required) Minimum 3-5 years of teaching experience (ESL or related field preferred). Knowledge of Title
III, ELPT
testing, and Louisiana EL policies. Strong data analysis, leadership, and communication skills. Preferred Skills Experience in a high school or alternative education setting Familiarity with diverse student populations (e.g., newcomer, over-age/under-credited) Ability to lead professional learning communities (PLCs) Work Environment This is an 11-month position Combination of instructional support, compliance oversight, and administrative duties May include direct instruction This is a hybrid position where work is primarily done remotely, but may require one or more days in the office for meetings and training monthly Temperatures may change from hot to cold depending on the location of work and the weather Minimum Requirements Must be a Louisiana resident Able to pass required background check and DCFS State Central Registry review Able to travel 25% of the time Eligible to work in the US without sponsorship The above job is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of duties and standards of the position.
