This position is part Program Specialist and part road trip.
As part of the Girl Program team, you will bring high-adventure programming directly to Girl Scout troops, often using our mobile unit - Adventure Express. You will develop, plan, and facilitate outdoor programming for our members.
This role is ideal for individuals passionate about taking Girl Scouting experiences beyond the traditional troop meeting, taking outdoor adventures to the members, and making Girl Scouts accessible to all members. Our Adventure Express mobile unit will be used frequently as part of providing outdoor programming. You'll start by traveling to the designated location in western PA, setting up and facilitating the program. At the end of the program, you'll pack up, secure all program components, and get ready for the next adventure. When you are not on the road in the mobile unit, you will be researching, developing, and facilitating additional outdoor programs for our membership. This role requires regular operation of a full-size truck pulling a 22-foot trailer. You must be confident and comfortable driving this type of vehicle. Training will be provided. Essential Duties Travel and Logistics:
Frequently travel throughout western PA, often driving our Adventure Express mobile unit, which is a full-size pickup truck pulling a 22-foot trailer
Program Planning:
Research and identify high-adventure programming opportunities throughout western PA that meet the Girl Scout Leadership Experience standards
Program Delivery:
Coordinate rentals of the Adventure Express mobile unit; facilitate expert-led, hands-on activities for troops, such as standup paddle board, archery, outdoor cooking, hiking throughout western PA, often using the Adventure Express mobile unit;
Safety Management:
Ensure the safety of participants by following safety standards of Girl Scouts and ACA, policies, procedures, and safety practices for the program and equipment used
Represent Girl Scouts with professionalism and enthusiasm QUALIFICATIONS
Skills & Core Competencies Comfortable driving a full-size truck pulling a 22-foot trailer in various western PA terrains and in various weather conditions; training provided
Experience in developing and facilitating outdoor education and program for youth
Certifications a plus or a willingness to get certified: archery, canoeing, kayaking, lifeguarding, stand-up paddle board
Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines
Strong training and facilitation skills with demonstrated success executing trainings and workshops
Top notch communicator and can confidently present to large groups
Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office, Outlook, proficient in Excel, and ability to learn new systems
Travel is required throughout western PA
Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks in a continually changing work environment
Must be organized, detail-oriented, and customer-focused
Ability and willingness to work and maintain a flexible schedule, to include evenings and weekends Education, Experience, and Certifications Degree in youth programming, social services, event planning or related field, or combined equivalent education and directly related work experience
Minimum of 2 years of work experience in related field with proven success in planning and facilitating quality youth programming
