Job Summary The Office of K-12 Partnerships is collaborating with Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools to bring the Math Corps summer program to the UM-Flint campus this summer. The Wayne State University Math Corps, was established in 1992 as a combined mathematics enrichment and mentoring program for Detroit public school students. For over thirty years, the Math Corps has been working to provide Detroit's children with the kinds of educational and lifetime opportunities that all kids deserve. UM-Flint's Math Corps program will be held July 13 - August 6, Monday - Thursday, with additional training sessions, orientation, and closing ceremonies before and after the program. UM-Flint is hiring (2) student College Assistants (CAs) to help staff the program. College Assistants (CAs) are current college students who are responsible for helping to ensure that each and every student has a safe, rewarding, enjoyable, and academically successful four-week experience. Specifically, the role of the CA is to help the Program Coordinator in organizing the site, supporting the senior staff in carrying out the day-to-day operations of the camp, and communicating daily events and issues with the Program Coordinator. The CAs wear many hats in the program and can easily find themselves working as tutors, hallway supervisors, classroom assistants, room supervisors, lunch assistants, runners, setting up and cleaning up for various events, and many other tasks. Responsibilities• College Assistants (CAs) are expected to: Attend the pre- and post- program meetings as needed. Report and work during the following events as scheduled by the
Program Coordinator:
orientation, all regularly scheduled program days, closing ceremony, 1-3 days post-camp to pack up, take inventory, and clean up the site, unless excused by the Program Coordinator. Assist the Site Coordinator in setting up the site. Perform jobs as assigned, which include: breakfast room set-up, clean-up, and supervision; game room set-up, clean-up, and supervision; hall monitor-safety supervision; outside monitor-safety supervision; tutoring; special projects; escorting students to lunch and lunch supervision; afternoon activities assistants; distribution and collection of paperwork (curriculum, attendance/homework sheets) as directed by the Program Coordinator Assist in breaking down the site according to the Program Coordinator's directions. Any other duties assigned by the Program Coordinator. Required Qualifications• Current college student Strong interpersonal skills Reliable transportation Fluency with spoken English Must attend mandatory training in mid-June at Wayne State University and meet reliability expectations for the duration of the summer program Desired Qualifications• Current UM-Flint student Modes of Work Onsite The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.
