About the American Society for Surgery of the Hand The American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) is a prestigious, professional medical society with a membership of more than 5,500 surgeons and healthcare professionals. The mission of ASSH is to advance the science and practice of hand and upper extremity surgery through education, research, and advocacy on behalf of patients and practitioners. ASSH provides educational opportunities for surgeons in the form of webinars, online resources, courses/meetings, textbooks, practice examinations, medical journals, and communities. ASSH also fosters basic science, clinical, and outcomes research grants, and provides hand surgery to underserved communities around the world.

Salary Range:
$65,000-$70,000
Job Summary:
The Manager of Policy & Practice Programs supports ASSH's practice, policy, and advocacy initiatives through effective program and committee management. This role serves as the primary staff liaison for several key committees focused on practice management, quality & metrics, physician coding & reimbursement, and government affairs, and works closely with volunteer leaders, staff colleagues, and external partners to advance ASSH's priorities. The ideal candidate will bring strong program management skills, an interest in health policy or advocacy, and the ability to work effectively in a volunteer-driven, association environment. This position reports to the Director of Membership & Special Programs and plays a key role in translating strategic priorities into well-executed programs and committee work.
Responsibilities:
Committee & Program Management Serve as primary staff liaison to the following committees and their subcommittees: Practice Management, Quality & Value Care, Physician Reimbursement & Coding, Government Affairs Support committee leaders in carrying out their charges, including meeting preparation, agenda development, documentation, and follow-up Coordinate committee meetings, conference calls, and related logistics Ensure continuity, organization, and institutional knowledge across committee terms Policy, Practice & Advocacy Support Support ASSH's practice, policy, and advocacy initiatives in coordination with the Director of Membership & Special Programs Assist with development and execution of advocacy-related programs, statements, resources, and initiatives Coordinate ASSH participation in joint initiatives with partner organizations, as directed Track and support implementation of committee-driven recommendations and priorities Monitor relevant policy, regulatory, or practice-related issues and share updates internally, as appropriate Program Execution & Administration Manage timelines, deliverables, and documentation for assigned programs and initiatives Prepare reports, summaries, briefing materials, and presentations for committees and leadership Maintain accurate records related to committee activities, program outputs, and decisions Support budget tracking and expense management for assigned programs, as needed Collaboration & Organizational Support Work closely with colleagues across membership, communications, education, research, and operations to ensure alignment and coordination Support the Director of Membership & Special Programs in advancing cross-functional initiatives related to practice and policy Provide consistent, high-quality support to volunteer leaders and staff partners Other Duties Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the scope and responsibilities of the position
Supervisor Responsibilities :
None Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required 3-6 years of relevant professional experience, preferably within a nonprofit, professional society, healthcare, or association environment Demonstrated experience supporting committees, volunteer leaders, or cross-functional programs Strong program and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience or strong interest in health policy, advocacy, reimbursement, or practice management Prior experience working with a medical or healthcare professional association Familiarity with governance or committee-based organizational structures Experience coordinating work with external partners or allied organizations

Work Environment:
This role is primarily office-based as part of a hybrid work environment, requiring regular interaction with team members and collaboration with other departments. Prolonged stationary periods and working on a computer.
Travel Requirements:
Occasional travel may be required for training sessions, meetings, or conferences. Travel is within the U.S. and is estimated to be up to 5-10% per year.
