Job Description
Children's Home Society of California (CHS) is a multi-service, non-profit agency providing Early Learning and Education Programs in multiple counties in California. This is a Full-Time (37.5 hours), Non-Exempt Position Under the supervision of Children's Home Society of California's (CHS) Program Manager, the Program Specialist will:
- Work directly with the public through inbound calls on the Resource & Referral (R&R) hotline for the Orange, Yolo, Yuba, Sutter, and greater Long Beach service areas
- Deliver exceptional customer service to families, child care providers, and the general public
- Listen to understand all questions and issues, while offering helpful and meaningful solutions
- Assist eligible families with completing and/or updating subsidized child care application
- Write and maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date notes in electronic databases
- Provide child care referrals via telephone and email
- Provide technical assistance and resources to families and child care providers
- Work cooperatively and cohesively with colleagues, including participation in weekly/monthly staff meetings and/or trainings
- Maintain all records in a high-quality manner and within record protection, retention, and destruction guidelines
- Adhere to all agency policies and procedures, as well as applicable contractual and governmental regulations
- Represent CHS at designated community outreach events to inform professionals, providers, and families about CHS Child Care and Development Services
- Work some evening and weekend hours, as needed, to support programming for client services
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Minimum five (5) years customer service experience with communication via telephone as a primary responsibility
- Ability to prepare and present effective written work, provide strong attention to detail, and produce error-free work
- Proficiency in using the computer while actively listening and responding to callers
- Ability to complete data entry duties with a high-level of accuracy
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the agency staff
- Proactive self-motivator with a professional, positive, and flexible attitude
- Excellent organization skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with a strong work ethic
- Ability to work independently and be accessible during work hours, regardless of work location
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement
- Commitment to CHS's core mission and values, and an ability to model those values in relationships with colleagues and partners
- Bilingual skills in Spanish preferred
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Ability to travel via air and surface transportation, including travel between multiple offices
SALARY SCALE
Entry level pay for this position is $24.96 per hour; the full pay scale is $24.96 to $29.21. Advancement on pay scale is based on qualifications, such as experience and education, and eventual job performance. Excellent benefits are provided including 100% employer paid medical, dental, and vision premium coverage for eligible employees and their eligible dependents and 10% pension plan contribution for eligible employees.
