Job Description:
Programs DirectorTransom Story Lab | Remote, or in-person in Woods Hole, MA (US-based)OverviewThe Programs Director oversees Transom's workshops, storytelling programs, editorial publishing, and public programming. This role ensures programs are executed smoothly, maintain high editorial standards, and support the development of new audio storytellers.

This position reports to the Executive Director.

STARTAugust 2026ResponsibilitiesWorkshop & program management Oversee Transom Traveling Workshop and related training programsManage Science Storytelling workshops and related initiativesCoordinate program schedules, logistics, and timelinesOversee participant application processesManage scholarship administration and participant communicationsInstructor & faculty coordinationRecruit and coordinate workshop instructorsManage instructor contracts and logisticsSupport instructors in curriculum developmentEditorial publishing Oversee publishing on Transom.orgEdit and manage contributor piecesCoordinate audio editing and story development for site publicationMaintain editorial calendar and contributor relationships
Note:
The Executive Director serves as editor for major Transom Specials.

Public programming, evaluation, and budget Coordinate occasional public events and programmingConduct participant surveys and program evaluationsManage program budgets; coordinate with Director of Ops & Dev on financial reportingQualificationsRequired5+ years of program management or editorial leadership in audio, journalism, or public-interest mediaStrong editorial judgment; knowledge of audio storytelling craftBackground producing or editing in audio, podcasts, or public radioExperience managing programs end-to-end (recruitment, logistics, evaluation)Excellent written and verbal communicationAbility to work independentlyPreferredExperience managing instructor or contractor relationshipsExperience with in-person educational experiencesFamiliarity with Transom's work and the broader independent audio communityBenefitsHealth (QSEHRA): tax-free reimbursement up to $5,400/yr for individual health insurance (self-only); optional family-tier reimbursement up to $9,000/yr available
Retirement:
401(k) plan with GuidelineParental leave: 14 weeks at 50% pay
PTO:
