Job Description

Special Education Program Specialist Providence, RI 02903 Hybrid work $10,000 a year - Contract $10,000 a year - Contract The Rhode Island School for Progressive Education (RISPE) seeks a Special Education Program Specialist to join our Special Education (SPED) certification program for current practicing teachers. The Special Education Program Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day operations, managing and maintaining academic data and records, and coordinating program-related events for RISPE's Special Education certification programs. The Specialist reports to the Interim Academic & Clinical Affairs Manager. Applicants to this position should hold a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in an applicable field and a current Rhode Island teacher certification in Special Education. Five or more years of experience in Special Education, as well as two or more years of experience coaching teachers is preferred.
Key responsibilities include:
Participate in onboarding and ongoing training for the role Participate in the hiring and review of Special Education clinical staff• and the Retention Committee review Observe clinical staff during debriefing sessions, document observations, and submit observations Design and lead group training and norming sessions based on observation data; provide clear expectations and feedback for all clinical staff twice per semester Systematically collect and document all clinical artifacts and organize in RISPE cloud storage Review transcripts for possible transfer credits; approve or deny transfer credit requests Organize twice-yearly conversations with candidates and their clinical coaches/supervisors and supervising practitioners. Collect clinical evidence forms Monitor use of the Edthena platform by Special Education candidates and clinical staff The Rhode Island School for Progressive Education (RISPE) is Rhode Island's first residency-style graduate school of education. RISPE was developed over four years with generous support from the Rhode Island Foundation and the United Way of Rhode Island, and received unanimous approval from the Rhode Island Council on Postsecondary Education in March 2019. RISPE's goal is to improve outcomes for all students in Rhode Island's urban public schools by diversifying the teacher pipeline, employing an anti-racist curriculum, and placing RISPE residents with highly effective mentor teachers for an immersive yearlong residency. RISPE will use best practices that have been piloted and proven in public schools across the region to train and prepare highly effective teachers for Rhode Island's urban public schools.
