PROGRAM DESIGN
: RTS facilitates a variety of youth programs including after-school, summer camps, retreats, conferences, and summer employment opportunities reaching thousands of young people throughout NYC each year. RTS emphasizes the youth development practice of the Circle of Courage in all our programs; creating an environment of Belonging, where young people can build their Independence, find, and develop their Mastery skill, and practice Generosity in their communities. At the core of our programs are staff training strategies that enable our young professionals to develop extraordinarily meaningful relationships with the young people in their care who we call Our Future Leaders because that is what they all are.
PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Summer Youth Employment Instructor plays a vital role in fostering positive youth development and ensuring the success of program participants.
Their core responsibilities include:
Implementing the RTS Mission and Vision
  • Embedding the principles of positive youth development into all instructional programming, ensuring an enriching and impactful experience for students. Providing Strategic Program Support
  • Assisting Program Directors (PDs) in key areas such as strategic planning, student recruitment, program implementation, and evaluation. Additionally, leading the coordination of studentfocused events, including educational field trips, orientations, appreciation ceremonies, and community engagements. iii) Building Meaningful Relationships
  • Establishing and nurturing strong connections with all key stakeholders, including students, parents, and community partners, to foster a supportive and engaging learning environment.

20 hours a week March thru June; 35 hours a week and July thru
August Compensation:
$23
  • $25 per hour based on experience
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Establishing and enforcing rules of behavior for participants during group sessions Preparing lessons and projects to support target learning objectives Communicating feedback to support growth within curriculum Adapting teaching methods and materials to meet the interests and learning styles of students Encouraging students to explore learning opportunities and their area of interest Working with students one-on-one when they need extra help or attention Creative, fun and adaptive learning environment Communicate with the Program Director regarding any conflicts with worksite assignments
KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
Creating instructional material, Lesson Planning, Leading a class (Hybrid) Effective communications skills, both oral and written form; Excellent organizational skills essential to maintain accurate records; Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines; Interact professionally with participants, staff, clients and community partners in a professional manner; Work collaboratively with other team members to meet common goals; Sensitivity and awareness to different cultures Always conduct himself/herself as a professional as per RTS policy on conduct, appearance and adherence to the overall organizational policy Proficient Microsoft Office Suite computer knowledge (Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work takes place in one or more school buildings, which may require climbing stairs. Typical job hours are 9 am
  • 5 pm, Monday
  • Friday, and events will take place during occasional nights and
  • weekends.
Travel via public transportation or car may be required throughout
NYC. COMPETENCIES

Ability to create and manage systems for effective program operation Create and nurture a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment that prioritizes the safety and emotional well-being of all participants. Efficiently manage operational systems, including data collection and stakeholder communication, to maintain operational effectiveness. Creates and Manages Systems for Effective Operation Build and maintain collaborative relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, ensuring that the program remains connected and relevant. Adapt to changing environments and needs, fostering innovation and engagement through changing leadership. Represent the program, its participants, staff, and families at various levels, advocating for their needs and the program's success.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in social work, Human Services, or a related field; a master's degree is preferred. Minimum of 3 years of experience in benefits administration, social services, or a related field. Deep understanding of public benefit programs. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in data management and reporting systems.
