Job Description
The Upward Bound Director supervises the program Counselor, Administrative Assistant, and all program tutor-teachers to ensure the objectives of the program is achieved. Maintains a close working relationship with personnel in target schools to better assist program students. Encourages close cooperation on behalf of the program by parents, college staff, program staff and the community at large. Create and monitor annual budget. Works closely with program staff to determine the academic needs and progress of program students, and compiles information and statistical data regarding such academic needs and progress. Prepare performance reports and fiscal reports. Evaluates the effectiveness of program objectives. Recruits students for the Upward Bound Program and encourages their participation in all aspects of the program. Recruits and recommends the appointment of all staff for the program, orients them to program goals and objectives, and provides for their in-service training. Schedules or approves all activities planned for program students and establishes the guidelines and format by which staff members report on such activities. Supervises and directs the expenditure of all program funds. Coordinates with the college's Governmental Relations Officer in preparing and submitting all proposals for program funding and all reports on program results. Performs any other duties that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
The Project Director will be required (1) to have a master's degree in counseling, education, human services, or a closely related field (master's degree preferred); (2) have 2 -3 years experience working with Upward Bound or another TRiO program; (3) to have successful experience in working with high school students, preferably with backgrounds and in circumstances similar to Upward Bound participants; (4) to have successful individual and/or group counseling experience; and (5) to have demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students similar to Upward Bound participants, with target school officials. and with parents.Application Procedure:
