Summer Camp Program Site Assistant (Part-Time) Sumter County is Currently Seeking Part-Time Summer Camp Program Site Assistants.
Hourly Pay:
$10.25 per Hour Position Overview Sumter County Recreation Department is seeking energetic, responsible, and community-minded individuals to serve as Summer Camp Program Site Assistants for the 2026 Summer Camp Program. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with youth and contributing to a fun, structured, and enriching summer experience. Site Assistants will support daily camp operations, supervise participants, and help facilitate a variety of educational and recreational activities, including arts and crafts, STEAM and fine arts, sports, and academic enrichment. We are hiring 6-8 part-time staff to support operations across multiple locations. Adult applicants are strongly encouraged to apply to support site opening and closing responsibilities. Work Locations Assignments may be at one of the following locations: Catchall-Shaw Community Center Slaterstown Community Center Ebenezer Community Center Examples of Work Performed Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing youth programs and daily camp activities Supervise and engage campers in a safe, structured, and inclusive environment Support Site Directors in coordinating and leading group activities Maintain attendance records and assist with required program documentation Ensure adherence to all program policies, procedures, and safety guidelines Assist with facility operations, including opening/closing procedures, general cleaning, and routine safety checks Serve as a positive role model and reinforce appropriate behavior among participants Perform other duties as assigned to support program success Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required by May 29, 2026 Must be available to work 4-6 weeks during the summer program Ability to supervise and interact effectively with children in a group setting Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively in a team environment Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and dependable attendance Preferred Qualifications Prior experience working in a camp, childcare, or youth program setting Experience leading or supporting recreational or educational activities Demonstrated leadership, responsibility, and adaptability Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to communicate effectively with children, staff, and parents Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment Sound judgment and decision-making skills Ability to remain patient, attentive, and engaged throughout the workday Physical Demands Ability to work in a fast-paced environment requiring focus, patience, and attention to detail Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in summer weather conditions Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds Ability to monitor and supervise all assigned areas of responsibility Additional Requirements Successful completion of a background check prior to working with children Verification of education and prior work experience Completion of all required pre-employment and camp training sessions Submission of a physician's statement confirming physical fitness, including documentation of two (2) MMR immunizations
