R146556 The Academic Advisor in the MSW Program Office provides support and guidance to students in the MSW program.
Duties will include:
1) Academic counseling of MSW students to address difficulties or concerns in the program 3) monitoring electronic student records, 4) advising students on their learning plans and career goals, 5) monitoring student progress toward their degree, 6) coordinating and implementing additional supports for in-person and online students to be determined, 7) advising support for online courses, 8) monitoring and reporting program statistics, and 9) assisting in other efforts as needed to support the MSW Program office. The candidate must be able to work independently, be a strong writer and effective communicator, and demonstrate the ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. 4 years of relevant experience required. Desired Qualifications Advanced degree in relevant field may be desirable. 4-8 years of relevant experience preferred. Masters degree in Social Work; a minimum of 2 years post-graduate work experience or 4 + years of relevant experience. Other desired qualifications include strong organizational skills, experience with online education, comfort using Skype and Zoom for virtual communication, experience with Microsoft Office software and electronic records, and a commitment to customer service. Candidates with strong writing skills, a student-centered approach, the ability to be self-directed and efficient, and a commitment to social work education are desired.
Responsibilities:
Academic counseling: Meet with students in the MSW Program (face-to-face and online) to discuss course planning and/or difficulties in the program, career development, and graduation; assist students with adding and dropping courses; help maintain student records; assist in graduation audits; coordinate and provide online advising; assign faculty advisors to students. Work with other units on campus (e.g., Graduate School) as needed. Answer questions about the program received via social media, email, phone, or walk-ins. Monitor and maintain MSW program records. Prepare reports for the MSW Program Director, the MSW Program Assistant Director, and other college senior leadership as needed for MSW Program assessment; review student enrollment records; assist with graduation audits; track graduate non-degree students; and monitor MSW Program enrollments and class size each semester. Monitor implementation of the MSW Program Office Distance Learning (DL) efforts to support student success and engagement in the program. Represent the Program Office on College and University DL committees as appropriate to provide input relative to MSW DL efforts. Remain current in DL best practice efforts related to DL student advising and academic counseling and support Assist in the welcome and orientation sessions for incoming MSW students. Assist MSW Program Director, MSW Program Assistant Director, and other college staff as needed with college-wide special events and other duties as assigned. Other duties as needed to support the MSW Program office and College of Social Work. This may include serving as backup to maintain the student listserv and other student communications; representing the College at selected university-wide advising forums and seminars. May attend CSWE and national advisor conferences to remain current in general advising best practices. Salary range is $55,700-$72,700 annually. The actual salary will fall within this range based on the candidates qualifications, internal equity, and the units available budget.
