Purpose:
This AmeriCorps Program aims to expand equitable access to environmental education, watershed science, and conservation career pathways for K-12 students and communities across Tennessee, with a focus on underserved and rural Appalachian regions. It serves youth, educators, and communities through collaborative partnerships that promote environmental stewardship, community engagement, and lifelong learning, guided by values of inclusion, accessibility, collaboration, and scientific integrity. The program is committed to empowering the next generation of informed environmental stewards while strengthening community connections to local ecosystems. In this AmeriCorps Position, the member will support this mission by developing outreach plans and events, building a comprehensive partner contact database, and creating evaluation frameworks to measure program impact. The member's service strengthens coordination between Freshwaters Illustrated and University of Tennessee Extension, helping expand program reach and effectiveness. Through these efforts, the member contributes to sustainable program growth and increased access to meaningful educational and career opportunities in conservation. The AmeriCorps VISTA member will build capacity and develop sustainable solutions to alleviate poverty in underserved communities.
Description of Duties:
The VISTA will develop outreach plans and events for underserved Appalachian communities, build partner contact database, and build frameworks for program evaluation.

Orientation and Training:
Member will receive an orientation that includes training on AmeriCorps prohibited and unallowable activities. Member will receive a Virtual Member Orientation (VMO) from VISTA on their first day of service.

Evaluation and Reporting:
As an AmeriCorps VISTA member, performance will be evaluated on whether the member has completed their required year of service; the member has satisfactorily completed assignments; and if the member has met other performance criteria that were clearly communicated at the beginning of the term of service. Reporting requirements include, but are not limited to, bi-weekly timesheets, accomplishment tracking, and quarterly reporting.
