This role provides disciplined project and program management leadership for complex initiatives that span multiple functions, ensuring strategic priorities are translated into executable plans and delivered with rigor, transparency, and accountability. The Director serves as a central leader for strategic programs, partnering with senior leaders to structure initiatives, manage interdependencies, mitigate risks, and ensure benefits realization through sustainable process improvements. This role serves as a key strategic partner to Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, and other business unit leadership, proactively identifying, prioritizing, and executing opportunities for process redesign and process efficiency across the enterprise. The Director acts as a trusted advisor to senior leaders for complex, high-impact initiatives and guiding functional partners through disciplined, data-driven decision making. This position is accountable for delivering results through effective change leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and continuous improvement that support AutoZone's evolving business needs. The position reports to senior finance leadership. Coordinate an annual assessment process to identify and prioritize processes with opportunity for cost savings. Own and run cross-departmental projects from scoping through completion, including timelines, budgets, staffing, and status reporting. Work directly with senior leaders in Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, and other business units to map existing processes, identify slow, redundant, or error-prone inefficiencies. Coordinate efforts in collaboration with the functional areas to redesign processes or subprocesses and develop action plans for implementation. Develop project plans that clearly define what will be done, by whom, with appropriate timelines for completion. Track progress and proactively flag risks Lead change management efforts: help teams understand why processes are changing and support them through the transition to drive stakeholder engagement. Cultivate a reputation as a "value-add" business partner to help avoid barriers to process redesign Design performance measurement criteria, monitor performance, and report outcomes Responsible for routine updates to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by executive leadership Lead a cross-functional team of AutoZoners, some of whom are permanent members of the Process Modernization team and some who are on a rotational assignment for a specific project Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent combination of education and experience required. MBA or other advanced degree preferred. 10+ years of progressive experience in retail operations and/or process improvement or project management roles. 5+ years of leadership experience, including leading teams through change and transformation initiatives. Proven expertise in leading process re-design and/or project management roles. Experience partnering with Finance, Operations, Legal, and functional leaders to support enterprise-wide initiatives. Experience in a Fortune 500 company or similarly complex, multi-location organization preferred. Exposure to Six Sigma methodologies is preferred.
