Education:
Applicants must be current college students pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree, preferably in Criminal Justice, Social Work, or Sociology, though recent graduates will also be considered.
Experience:
, Mobile device correspondence, Canva, and Microsoft Office experience with fundamental knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word. Strong organizational experience.
Summary:
This program offers meaningful internship opportunities as a support component for direct services for survivors of human trafficking. As a Survivor Services Support Intern, you will assist with a variety of tasks, including preparing outreach materials, providing direct support to logistical demands for the program, and. Interns will also help represent DEFEND at community events, support partnerships with local organizations, contribute to research for presentations and trainings, and track outreach activities and data.
Intern Functions:
1. Assist in preparing and creating outreach materials to support community awareness efforts. 2. Organize and maintain supplies and materials for outreach events and survivor support services. 3. Represent BCFS Health and Human Services DEFEND at community events by sharing program and agency information, as well as raising awareness about human trafficking. 4. Support the Program Supervisor in collaborating with community-based organizations and other stakeholders to build partnerships across assigned counties. 5. Assist with research to support human trafficking presentations and trainings. 6. Help track outreach activities and maintain data records. 7. Provide support with logistical needs for program activities and events.
Requirements:
1. Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds (such as outreach materials or event supplies). 2. Ability to remain in a stationary position (seated or standing) for extended periods to complete administrative tasks or attend meetings. 3. Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers, copiers, and printers. 4. The internship requires completing 160 hours at the local program office, with the possibility of some local travel to site locations as needed.
Additional Requirements:
1. Valid Texas Driver's license with a clear driving record and reliable transportation. 2. Pass a pre-employment and biennial criminal background and motor vehicle check (fingerprints needed if applicant has lived out of state within the past 5 years). 3. Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request.
Intern Success:
1. Completion of at least 20 hours of training to ensure preparedness for internship responsibilities. 2. Ongoing support through weekly supervision and written supervision reports.
