JOB SUMMARY:
Performs difficult professional and intermediate administrative work coordinating, planning and assisting with instructional programs in the area of Secondary Social Studies or related subject matter; does related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Coordinator of Secondary Social Studies. Limited supervision may be exercised over teachers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Maintains current knowledge of development, materials and techniques in assigned subject area; ? Develops curriculum and assessment instruments; ? Assists with organizing and directing curriculum committees in the review, development, and alignment ? of K-12 curricula; ? Assists with the textbook adoption process; ? Interprets curriculum revisions, innovations, and programs in subject area; ? Assists with the reinforcement of research-based teaching practices and strategies; ? Assists with and conducts professional development activities and teaches demonstration lessons; ? Observes and provides feedback to teachers; ? Frequent and consistent school visits; ? Assists with the recruitment of teachers; ? Attends staff and related meetings; ? Performs related tasks as required.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures used in the development, design and implementation of instruction and classroom management; comprehensive knowledge of area specialty; ability to develop and present ideas effectively, orally and in written form; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school principals, other staff and the general public; ability to use technology. This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires fingering, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in an appropriate education specialty supplemented by a Master's degree and a minimum of 5 years of successful teaching in Social Studies.
