Washington, United States Apply by: 24 May 2026 Relevant Sectors Fundraising, Business Development, Grants Writer Social, Education, Gender, Youth, Child The Center for Global Development (CGD) is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit policy research organization in Washington, DC and London, UK that focuses on the issues and institutions that are critical to inclusive development. Through rigorous empirical research and active engagement with the global policy community, we focus on the policy intersections of low- and middle-income countries and the governments, institutions, and corporations that can be partners in delivering greater progress. The Education and Child Well-being program is seeking part-time program management support during the parental leave of a staff member. This position will be based in the Washington, DC office. Under the supervision of the Program Director, the program manager will perform a range of project management, administrative support, and organizational duties for nine months. Expected responsibilities are outlined below, though the role is comprised of a) budget, grants and contracting; b) operations and administrative leadership; c) convenings, workshops, and communications support; and d) people and project delivery.Responsibilities include:
- Ensure the operations for the program run smoothly.
- Manage ongoing sub-contracted partners and consultants: conducting due diligence on potential partners (collaborating with the CGD finance and operations teams), drafting contracts, setting budgets and milestones and tracing progress.
- Maintain trackers (budgets, timelines, deliverables) and proactively identify risks; escalating decision to the Program Director as needed.
- Support the Program Coordinator in administrative and operational tasks related to the operation of the program.
- Management of the Global Education Program's workstreams; coordination of cross-functional inputs between different areas of research and policy to ensure workstreams are aligned and on schedule.
- Ensure effective, compliant use of funds across projects; maintain well-organized financial documentation (in consultation with the finance teams)
- Work alongside the program and Institutional Advancement team on coordinating inputs for grant reporting.
- Support programmatic activities including convenings, workshops and special initiatives with support from the Program Coordinator (timelines, budgets, vendor coordination and run-of-show logistics). Requirements
- Master's degree
- Demonstrated experience with project/program management, especially large and complex programs in an international development organization (3-4 years).
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and a wide range of stakeholders
- Experience with budget and grant management
- Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously, in a fast-paced environment. An ability to see ahead and think strategically is essential.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as a high level of organizational skills and attention to detail.
- A working knowledge of project management tools and techniques.
- Interest/experience in the topic of education and child well-being a plus, but not required.
