The Stepping Stone Mentor provides guidance, supervision, and mentorship to youth ages 13-15 as they build foundational workforce readiness skills. Stepping Stones offers youth participation in structured, community- and culturally-based projects and activities. This position aids youth in developing positive work habits, communication, and teamwork. Daily work for Stepping Stones Mentors includes fostering strong relationships with youth, instructing activities, and serving as a positive role model so participants gain confidence, responsibility, and a sense of belonging within the community. The essential purpose of this role is to maintain a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where youth envision and plan for their futures.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following and other duties may be assigned: Schedule Requirements Attend required staff training (June 24-June 28, 2024). Work the full Stepping Stones Program (July 1-August 6, 2024).Schedule:
Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.; Friday, 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p. Youth Mentorship & Supervision Supervise and support youth ages 13-15 at all times to ensure safety and positive engagement. Lead and participate in daily program activities while serving as a positive role model. Build respectful, supportive relationships and maintain a structured, inclusive environment. Enforce program rules, expectations, and policies consistently. Workforce Readiness & Youth Development Provide direct instruction and coaching to build foundational job readiness skills. Promote teamwork, communication, responsibility, and positive work habits. Support youth social and emotional development and encourage healthy peer interactions. Help youth build confidence, accountability, and curiosity through hands-on projects. Cultural & Community Engagement Model and reinforce Squaxin Island Tribal values, culture, and community pride, including respect for Tribal elders, peers, staff, environment, facilities, and equipment. Program Operations Participate in daily staff meetings, planning, and required trainings. Collaborate with program staff to ensure consistent, high-quality programming.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
: This position will be responsible for the supervision of groups of youth, ages 13-14 years. In some cases, twelve-year-olds may be admitted and part of programming.QUALIFICATIONS

AA OR High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of 2 years of related experience working with tribal youth ages 13 - 15 in a community setting, OR 4 years of related experience working with tribal youth ages 13 - 15 in a community setting.LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must pass WATCH and Tribal Court Background Check (No crimes against people.) All applicants must have CPR/First Aid certification and Food Handlers Permit prior to the beginning of the program (This will be included in the staff training).PHYSICAL DEMANDS
