Status:
LTE , 8 hours per week, as needed position This position is for a fill-in shelter advocate, mostly supporting shelter coverage during the weekends with differing shifts available. Overnight shifts provide $1 differential in pay. Candidate would collaborate with other advocates to ensure 24-hour coverage needs are met. Candidates will receive extensive training to prepare for this role and will have the opportunity to train on multiple shifts. Background check and fingerprinting are required before hire.
Duties:
Maintain a safe shelter, ensuring building is secure, and sanitary at all times , addressing concerns when on duty. Evaluate crisis situations, provide emotional support, coordinate transportation as appropriate, assess needs and barriers assessments to provide resources for those experiencing domestic abuse or sexual assault and at-risk youth in person or via the 24/7 crisis line. Provide trauma informed and strengths-based support and advocacy for victims of violence and sexual assault including assistance with restraining orders, crime victim compensations, safety planning, facilitation of assessing other necessary resources. Provide accompaniment and advocacy for
SAVS/SANE.
Provide support to youth in crisis and their parents/guardians, via walk-in or crisis line or those in shelter. Responsible for the provision of mediation services designed to de-escalate tensions between the youth and parent/guardian to better equip them to manage future conflicts. Organize and implement component work (support group, support services, activities, specialized advocacy services). May include follow ups, program promotion, topic discussion, obtaining participant feedback, and monthly reporting of activities. Specialized advocacy services will include maintaining knowledge of legal, housing, employment, education, children's, youth at risk and other support services and assisting clients with appropriate resources. Collaborate with colleagues to ensure proper shift coverage, while providing support and guidance to new staff in training, volunteers, or interns as needed. Must acquire 15 hours of training specific to youth-related issues per calendar year. Assist with fundraising activities and the development of grant applications and reports, as directed. Responsible for following all program, organizational, administrative and fiscal requirements, policies and procedures to include reporting, donations tracking and the utilization of resources, accurately and timely.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree, plus 1 year or related experience, Associates degree, plus 3 years of related experience, or high school diploma plus five years of related experience. Must acquire CPR and First aid certification within 90 days of hire. Must demonstrate the ability to evaluate and respond to crisis situations. Must be able to understand the dynamics and laws surrounding domestic violence and sexual assault within 6 months of hire. Moderate proficiency in Office365 Suite within six months of hire.
