Job Description

Meeting community needs and improving teaching and learning are among Blue Ridge Community and Technical College's highest priorities. This is a flexible faculty position working with Utilities, Energy, and Drone education. This 12-month faculty position will prepare students for careers for many local and regional employers. Opportunities and responsibilities include recruitment and retention, teaching, customized curriculum development and instructional design, and assessing learning. Opportunities for continued technical professional development exist This position is located at the Technical Center with the opportunity for a flexible schedule. This position works with a mixture of teaching degree-seeking students, career advancement short courses, and advanced technical training for local and regional employers. Workload will vary depending on the type of project work planned per month or semester. Teaching needs may vary from semester to semester; however, this position will integrate teaching and assessment into a combination of the following: Assess technical skill needs in the areas of applied utility, energy, and UAS drone technology. Design and deliver training in direct response to local labor market needs. Teach in degree programs or career advancement short programs as assigned, and in collaboration with other faculty. Demonstrate skills and techniques used in the field by electric utility workers. Provide training and consulting for workforce initiatives for public and corporate partners. Recommend and participate in marketing events and campaigns to promote degrees, short-term courses, and job placement. Arrange and attend high school and other recruiting events. Organize the program advisory board. Meet with the program advisory board twice a year with the department Dean. Facilitate a yearly student focus group, with the Dean and Chief Academic Office. Participate in industry recognized certification training to continually upgrade technical skills. Travel for professional development and/or training assignments. Provide advisory assistance for current students and assist instructors with student advising Support effective communication between department leadership and department staff. Performs any other duties to drive the College's Vision, to fulfil the College's Mission, and to abide by the College's Values Other duties as assigned.
Education :
Associates degree is preferred; however, candidates with considerable industrial experience combined with the willingness to teach will be considered in lieu of degree.
Experience :
Experience teaching at the secondary and/or college level is desirable or experience conducting training in the electric utility industry. At least 5 years in the Utility and Energy workforce is preferred. Active CDL preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required Computer skills required Positive written and verbal skills required Must be able to work with a diverse team Must have physical ability to demonstrate skills and techniques to students in the classroom Must be able to work in different College site locations, and employer site locations Must be able to work a variety of day or evening hours as needed Licensure/Certification Required Any industrial certifications will be considered. Must have an active driver's license. All faculty positions are lecturer rank with temporary classification at entry. Position open until filled.
