). Support a Fortune 500 Aero Defense company as an Assistant Project Manager. In a manufacturing environment, The Assistant Program Manager (APM) will be responsible for working with (PM) in managing and delivering scope on our Mk41 Vertical Launching system and Mk 45 Naval Gun System programs on time and within cost. This role primarily supervises contracts and new business with existing customers as well as industrial offset planning and execution.
Location/Schedule/Travel:
  • This role is onsite in Chula Vista, Ca
  • The workday will begin around 6:00AM
  • The role works 8 hours per day/ 5 days a week schedule
  • There may be up to 10% travel including potential international travel The APM is accountable for the following:
  • Managing scope, schedule, and cost for particular tasks or elements of a larger effort
  • Identifying and managing risks and opportunities
  • Monitoring and controlling activities on current contracts including disciplined, effective change management
  • Performing as a Control Account Manager (CAM)
  • Tracking and controlling Earned Value Management ( EVM)
  • Leading matrixed team members based on program direction from a senior program manager Proactively planning activities on current and future contracts
  • Continuously improving program performance including capturing, evaluating, and sharing good practice Responsibilities and day-to-day activities within this role include the following:
  • Partners with project controls to develop and maintain the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) and manages project's performance to the IMS
  • Develops, creates, and reports on key project metrics including on-time delivery, material forecasts, hardware production and delivery forecasts, resource allocation, and performance to labor and material budgets
  • Identifies and assesses performance gaps to customer expectations or project or business objectives, develops and initiates improvement plans to close the gaps, and utilizes metrics to verify performance to plan
  • Proactively follows all export and security policies
  • Flexes schedule due to time zone differences when supporting customer meetings
Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree and 2+ years of work experience or equivalent education/experience
  • Customer focus and relationship building skills
  • Experience in Project Management and interest in deepening and broadening this skill set rapidly
  • Experience in Scope Management
  • Ability to develop and implement effective project plans
  • Ability to initiate, prioritize, and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Uses a team-based approach that demonstrates the value of each team member
  • Ability to operate independently and proactively
