Job Description

Job Title:
Project Manager (Industrial Equipment) Job Description This role oversees the execution of large, complex industrial equipment projects from engineering handoff through production and delivery. You coordinate across engineering, production, supply chain, and vendors to keep projects on schedule, within budget, and aligned with technical and commercial requirements. The position is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in fabrication and manufacturing environments who understands physical equipment, shop-floor realities, and the consequences of missed logistics or poor coordination. You work closely with senior leadership and engineering, owning day-to-day project coordination, reducing bottlenecks, and proactively identifying risks that impact cost, schedule, or execution. Responsibilities Coordinate technical and commercial project activities from engineering release through production and final delivery. Track project schedules, milestones, budgets, and deliverables using MS Project and other standard tracking tools. Monitor project progress and identify potential delays or issues, escalating risks related to cost, schedule, logistics, or resource constraints in a timely manner. Prepare and issue clear status reports, meeting notes, and action item follow-ups to keep stakeholders informed and accountable. Support internal project reviews and facilitate cross-functional communication, acting as a coordination link between engineering, production, purchasing, accounting, and supply chain. Manage and track engineering deliverables such as drawings, calculations, bills of materials (BOMs), reports, operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals, and close-out documentation. Coordinate procurement activities, including issuing purchase orders, obtaining vendor quotations, tracking lead times, and overseeing logistics and material handling. Understand and account for physical project constraints such as foundations, cranes, material movement paths, equipment size, and facility limitations when planning and coordinating work. Act as a communication liaison for customers and third-party service providers, ensuring clear expectations and timely information flow. Gradually support customer-facing activities as experience and comfort level grow, including participation in meetings and progress updates. Coordinate with suppliers and service providers to ensure scope alignment, clarity of deliverables, and timely execution of work. Improve project visibility and accountability across teams by implementing structured tracking and reporting practices. Bring structure and repeatable processes to project execution while adapting to a dynamic, build-to-order environment. Take ownership of coordination tasks currently handled by senior leadership to free them for higher-level strategic responsibilities. Apply practical knowledge of fabrication, welding, integration, testing, and production workflows to anticipate and resolve issues on the shop floor. Work closely with assembly shops and heavy equipment teams to align layouts, crane usage, skids, and machinery handling with project plans. Support the integration and testing of complex equipment, including systems such as turbines, cooling systems, and other thermodynamic components, as applicable. Balance multiple concurrent projects and priorities, maintaining composure under pressure and ensuring critical path activities stay on track. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Process, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience in a related technical field. 3+ years of experience working within project management or project coordination, or as an engineer with significant project experience. Experience working on physical, equipment-based projects in manufacturing, industrial, or assembly environments. Previous experience coordinating or managing projects involving large equipment, skids, machinery, or process systems. Experience working in heavy equipment or industrial equipment assembly environments. Practical understanding of fabrication, welding, integration, testing, and production workflows. Proficiency in MS Project for scheduling and tracking project timelines and milestones. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams for documentation, communication, and collaboration. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly across technical and non-technical stakeholders. Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and maintain calm and focus under pressure. Experience with procurement, supply chain coordination, and vendor management. Demonstrated ability to coordinate real projects in the field or shop, even if prior roles did not carry a formal project management title. Additional Skills & Qualifications PMP certification is a plus but not required. Experience transitioning from an engineering or operations role into project coordination or project management. Background in industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, or process engineering. Experience with program management or overseeing multiple related projects. Familiarity with heavy equipment, cranes, skids, machinery layouts, and industrial plant layout design. Exposure to turbine systems, cooling systems, and thermodynamics in an industrial context. Hands-on experience working in or around assembly shops, heavy equipment, or industrial manufacturing environments. Ability to anticipate problems before they become costly, with a proactive and practical ("street-smart") approach to problem solving. Comfort working in dynamic, build-to-order environments where priorities and conditions can change rapidly. Work Environment The role is based within a heavy industrial equipment manufacturing environment focused on the engineering and manufacturing of modular power generation and process systems. Projects are executed under one roof in a large, approximately 40,000-square-foot facility that supports activities from initial design through in-house testing. You work closely with a multidisciplinary team that includes mechanical design engineers at various levels, a supply chain coordinator, a project coordinator, and a project manager. The environment involves regular interaction with shop-floor personnel, large equipment, cranes, skids, and complex machinery, as well as coordination with external suppliers and service providers. Work typically involves standard business hours, with flexibility required to support project schedules and critical milestones. The setting is hands-on and industrial, requiring comfort around fabrication, welding, assembly, testing operations, and the use of industrial tools and equipment, with appropriate safety practices and attire expected in production areas.
