Project Manager Assistant 3.5 3.5 out of 5 stars Job Summary We're looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Project Manager Assistant to join our structural steel fabrication and erection team. In this role, you'll work side-by-side with our Project Managers to help move steel projects from bidding to installation. This is a hands-on role for an experienced professional who understands how structural steel projects come together; from reading drawings and tracking material to coordinating with the shop and field crews. Our environment is fast-paced and deadline-driven, so being able to stay organized, juggle multiple responsibilities, and perform well under pressure is key. If you enjoy staying busy, solving problems, and being part of a team that builds the backbone of commercial and industrial structures, this role is for you. What You'll Do Support Project Managers in planning and tracking fabrication and erection schedules to keep projects on time. Review structural drawings, shop drawings, and project specifications to ensure everything aligns before steel hits the shop floor. Communicate with general contractors, engineers, detailers, vendors, shop personnel, and field crews to keep information flowing and projects moving. Maintain organized project documentation including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and production updates. Help monitor shop progress to ensure fabrication meets quality standards and schedule expectations. Assist with material tracking, including steel orders, mill certifications, and delivery coordination. Support shipping and erection logistics to ensure steel arrives in the right sequence and at the right time. Participate in project meetings, document action items, and help keep the team accountable for next steps. Assist with project closeout documentation including final submittals, as-builts, warranties, and contract compliance requirements. Track job costs, labor hours, and quantities to help maintain budget awareness. Manage multiple active tasks and shifting priorities in a fast-paced fabrication environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Travel to job sites as needed to support field coordination, observe progress, and assist with project execution. What We're Looking For 5+ years' experience in structural steel fabrication. Must be proficient in Bluebeam for drawing review and document coordination. Strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to handle several projects and deadlines at once. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and remain calm and effective under pressure. Willingness and ability to travel to job sites as required. Clear and professional communication skills when working with contractors, engineers, shop teams, and field crews.
A proactive mindset:
