Project Manager - Utility-Scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

Contract Role Overview The Project Manager is responsible for leading advanced technical, financial, and regulatory planning for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects from early development through construction readiness. This role requires the application of advanced engineering, economic, and project-management principles to optimize project scope, risk allocation, and financial feasibility. Upon project turnover for field execution, the Project Manager will be responsible for all aspects of projects that can range from 200 million to 1.5 billion dollars. Key Responsibilities Lead advanced pre-construction planning and optimization for utility-scale BESS projects, integrating engineering design, financial modeling, and procurement strategy. Manage coordination of highly matrixed project development teams to ensure resources are focused on meeting project schedules.
  • Support project execution from field turnover to completion, overseeing contract administration, safety management, and project timelines.
  • Coordinate with environmental, regulatory, land acquisition, and interconnection teams to ensure comprehensive project development. Develop and optimize the project's technical scope and variables to improve technical and financial feasibility.
  • Support origination and development teams with PPA and GIA negotiations.
  • Competitively source, negotiate, and execute commercial contracts for critical services, including engineering and EPC/PC construction services.
  • Actively communicate and interface with executive leadership, suppliers, regulatory agencies, and local communities.
  • Present project progress and risk mitigation strategies in meetings with various levels of management.
  • Ensure a seamless handover of projects to the Construction Project Manager with an executable construction plan.
Required Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field.
Experience:
6 to 10 years of experience managing engineering and construction projects with responsibility for budget oversight and execution. A focus on engineering, economics, or construction is preferred.
Technical Skills:
Advanced Excel skills are required. Preferred Qualifications Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. Six Sigma experience. Technical experience with renewable energy projects, particularly electricity markets, renewables, and battery projects. Compensation & Benefits The anticipated pay range for this position is $45.00/hour to $57.00/hour.
