Solar PV Project Manager — Job Description (Hawaii) Role Overview A Solar PV Project Manager oversees the full lifecycle of solar energy projects—from initial planning and permitting through construction and final commissioning—ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and compliant with Hawaii-specific regulations. Key Responsibilities 1. Project Planning & Execution
- Define project proposal for customer
- Define project scope, schedule, and budget
- Manage all phases: site assessment → design → permitting → construction → commissioning
- Oversee multiple projects simultaneously 2.
Team & Stakeholder Coordination Lead cross-functional teams (engineering, permitting, procurement, construction) Coordinate with: Hawaiian Electric Subcontractors Clients and property owners HNU Electricians, Installers, and Management Act as the main point of contact for all stakeholders 3. Budget & Schedule Management Track project costs, forecasts, and materials Ensure milestones are met and projects stay on schedule Manage contracts, change orders, and procurement 4.
Permitting & Compliance Handle:
Local permitting and zoning Interconnection approvals Environmental and safety regulations Ensure compliance with Hawaii building codes and utility requirements 5. Construction Oversight (with superintendent) Supervise installation teams and subcontractors Ensure quality control and adherence to design specs Enforce safety standards on-site 6. Risk & Problem Management Identify project risks early Resolve issues related to: Delays Supply chain Weather or site conditions 7.
Reporting & Documentation Maintain:
Project schedules Budgets and forecasts RFIs, submittals, and closeout documents Provide regular updates to leadership and clients Typical Requirements Education Bachelor's degree in: Electrical Engineering Construction Management Renewable Energy or similar Experience Min 5 years in: Solar PV, construction, or energy projects Experience with: Permitting and interconnection Construction drawings and contracts Skills Strong leadership & communication Project management tools (MS Project, Smartsheets, Excel, etc.)
Knowledge of:
Solar PV systems Battery storage / microgrids (increasingly important in Hawaii) Certifications (preferred) PMP (Project Management Professional) NABCEP (solar certification) Compensation Typical range: $90,000 - $120,000+ depending on experience and project size
