We are currently searching for a Senior Project Manager (SPM) for the Centralized Checked Baggage System (CCBS) project at Tampa International Airport in Tampa, Florida. The estimated $300 million program will replace much of the existing baggage system in the main terminal building and extend the system to a new 16-gate concourse. As our SPM, you will supervise a team of five individuals responsible for overseeing the contractor's removal of the old equipment and installation of the new and expanded system. The project assignment is scheduled to be completed in 2030. Primary Responsibilities
  • Oversees and monitors the contractual performance of the design builder's baggage handling system (BHS) subcontractor. Enabling work to clear the rights -of-way for the new system is underway.
  • Manages the coordination of work between the BHS subcontractor and Airport Operations staff. The Airport must maintain BHS services throughout the construction project, so the project schedule includes many dependent activities.
  • Reviews implementation plans and schedules prepared by the subcontractor for safety and operational related issues.
  • Monitors the subcontractor's submittals and requests for information.
  • Reviews and evaluates proposed changes claims submitted by the subcontractor.
  • Checks to see if utility outages are properly coordinated, safely executed, and completed per agreed upon schedules.
  • Prepares weekly and monthly progress reports. Briefs senior Airport representatives.
  • Assesses construction progress, reviews monthly payment requests, and recommends changes and approvals.
  • Tracks schedule updates from the design builder and discusses any needed schedule mitigation actions with the subcontractor.
  • Monitors the subcontractor's use of contingency and allowance funds and conducts monthly risk assessments.
  • Supports the processing of change requests with technical, commercial, and schedule reviews of the subcontractor's request and designer's direction.
  • Attends weekly progress meetings and special sessions schedule to discuss specific project issues.
  • Provides subject matter expertise (SMH) for a wide range of BHS issues. Participates in problem solving and value engineering exchanges.
  • Tracks daily reports and monitors needed corrective actions to meet design and quality requirements.
  • Participates in the coordination of equipment commissioning activitiesand TSA acceptance tests.
  • Supports the Airport's construction safety program.
  • Identifies upcoming Airport decisions and coordinates the analysis and information needed to support these decisions.
  • Reports directly to the assigned PMCM Senior Construction Manager with a dotted line to the Airport's BHS SME. Here's what you'll need
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience working on the installation, maintenance, and/or operations of an airport baggage handling system (BHS) or similar industrial conveyance system. Must demonstrate a minimum of 5 years of experience in a management role.
  • Previous experience demonstrating the ability to manage a team of people responsible for delivering a project/program having cost, quality, schedule, and safety performance requirements.
  • Experience with setting priorities, solving problems, reacting to changed conditions, and mitigating conflicts.
  • Individual must demonstrate a positive attitude, the ability to sort through conflicting priorities, balance construction progress with safety and Airport operational issues, and the ability to clearly communicate with a wide number of stakeholders.
  • Experience managing the installation of a replacement BHS at a large commercial airport is preferred.
  • The position requires the selected individual to work at Tampa Airport 5 days a week.

Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
