Full Job Description Company Overview:
Byford Construction, Inc., is a growing minority and women-owned commercial construction business specializing in high-quality union carpentry throughout the Chicagoland area. Our work includes rough carpentry, finish carpentry, millwork installation, doors, frames and hardware, Division 10 specialties, and specialty support scopes across a wide range of commercial projects. We are committed to delivering quality craftsmanship, building strong relationships, and operating with integrity in every aspect of our work. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Manager to join our team.
Position Summary:
We are looking for a Project Manager with 10+ years of experience, preferably in a specialty subcontracting environment. This role will oversee carpentry and millwork projects from preconstruction through closeout, including scope review, contract management, material procurement, change order management, client communication, field coordination, and estimating support as needed. The position will work closely with company leadership, field supervision, clients, and project teams to help ensure successful project execution and continued company growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management:
Manage project budgets, labor tracking, and material procurement. Work with the General Superintendent and field to ensure proper execution of the scope. Maintain communication with GCs, clients, and vendors regarding schedule adjustments, progress meetings, project updates, and closeout procedures. Oversee submittals, RFI logs, change orders, closeout documents, and project schedules. Attend project meetings, site visits, preconstruction check-ins, and walkthroughs as needed. Participate in weekly internal project review and manpower planning meetings. Analyze bid documents, build detailed estimates using software and solicit subcontractor and/or vendor pricing as needed.
Position Requirements and Qualifications:
10+ years of experience of project management experience in commercial construction, preferably with a carpentry or specialty trade contractor. Strong knowledge of rough carpentry, finish carpentry, and millwork installation. Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings. Comfortable managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Proficiency in On Screen Take Off, Quick Bid, Excel, and Bluebeam is a plus. Clear written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Team player with a willingness to learn and grow within a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with union labor rules and productivity rates. Experience managing small to mid-sized commercial projects ($20K-$1M range).
