Job Description

Young Management & Consulting (YMC) is seeking an experienced and driven Project Manager to support utility infrastructure, electrical transmission & distribution, substation, renewable energy, and power delivery projects within our Energy Group. This role is responsible for the successful execution and leadership of complex electrical utility projects from project development through commissioning and closeout. The Project Manager will oversee all aspects of project execution including safety, quality, budget, scheduling, subcontractor coordination, client management, risk mitigation, contract administration, and field operations support. This individual will serve as a key liaison between utility owners, engineering teams, construction management, subcontractors, regulatory agencies, and executive leadership to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership capabilities, utility construction knowledge, commercial management experience, and the ability to successfully manage multiple fast-paced projects simultaneously. Key ResponsibilitiesProject Leadership & Execution Lead and manage electrical utility, transmission, distribution, substation, renewable energy, and infrastructure projects through all phases including estimating, engineering support, pre-construction, procurement, execution, commissioning, energization, and project closeout. Assume full ownership of project performance including safety, schedule, quality, client satisfaction, financial performance, and operational execution. Develop and implement project execution strategies, staffing plans, procurement plans, recovery plans, and resource allocation plans. Manage and mentor project teams including Project Engineers, Assistant Project Managers, Coordinators, Superintendents, Inspectors, and field personnel. Coordinate closely with engineering, construction, scheduling, procurement, commissioning, environmental, and project controls teams. Support utility outage planning, switching coordination, energization sequencing, and system turnover activities. Ensure all project activities are executed in accordance with contract documents, utility standards, engineering drawings, specifications, and applicable codes. Client & Stakeholder Management Serve as the primary point of contact for utility clients, owners, contractors, consultants, vendors, and regulatory agencies. Establish and maintain strong professional relationships with clients and stakeholders to ensure long-term customer satisfaction and repeat business opportunities. Lead client meetings, progress reviews, executive updates, construction coordination meetings, and project status reporting. Identify and support business development opportunities, contract expansions, and future project pursuits. Coordinate with local municipalities, permitting agencies, environmental organizations, and utility representatives as required. Financial & Commercial Management Manage project financial performance including forecasting, budgeting, earned value tracking, cost controls, invoicing, accruals, and profitability analysis. Review and approve project billings, subcontractor invoices, purchase orders, and change requests. Track project productivity, labor performance, equipment utilization, and cost variances. Lead contract negotiations, subcontract negotiations, vendor procurement activities, and commercial issue resolution. Prepare and negotiate change orders, claims, time extensions, and scope modifications. Ensure contractual compliance and proper administration of prime contracts, subcontracts, and service agreements. Support monthly financial reporting and provide executive leadership with project performance updates and risk assessments. Safety, Quality & Compliance Promote and enforce a strong safety culture aligned with OSHA regulations, utility requirements, company policies, and client-specific safety programs. Ensure all work activities are executed safely and in compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards. Support field safety observations, audits, toolbox talks, incident investigations, and corrective action implementation. Ensure quality assurance and quality control procedures are implemented and maintained throughout the project lifecycle. Verify construction installations comply with approved drawings, specifications, utility standards, and applicable codes. Support environmental compliance efforts including SWPPP, permitting requirements, stormwater management, and regulatory documentation. Scheduling & Project Controls Work collaboratively with Project Controls and Scheduling teams to develop, maintain, and update detailed project schedules. Monitor critical path activities, milestone attainment, productivity trends, and schedule performance. Identify project risks, delays, resource constraints, and execution challenges and develop mitigation or recovery plans. Support outage schedules, material tracking, long-lead procurement coordination, and commissioning milestones. Provide accurate project reporting including schedule updates, KPI tracking, forecasting, and executive summaries. Construction & Field Coordination Coordinate closely with Construction Managers, Superintendents, Inspectors, craft labor, and subcontractors to ensure efficient field execution. Support constructability reviews, work package planning, outage coordination, and sequencing strategies. Monitor field productivity, installation quality, staffing levels, equipment utilization, and subcontractor performance. Assist with resolution of technical issues, field conflicts, design clarifications, and constructability concerns. Conduct site visits and field reviews to verify project progress and compliance. Risk Management Identify and proactively manage project risks related to safety, schedule, procurement, staffing, financial exposure, environmental compliance, and client deliverables. Develop contingency plans and corrective action strategies to minimize project impacts. Coordinate with legal, contracts, insurance, and executive leadership regarding claims management and risk mitigation activities. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or related technical discipline preferred. Minimum 8-12 years of relevant project management experience supporting electrical utility, transmission, distribution, substation, renewable energy, or infrastructure construction projects. Strong understanding of utility construction methods, electrical systems, substation construction, transmission & distribution operations, and utility standards. Experience managing EPC, design-build, public utility, or heavy infrastructure projects preferred. PMP (Project Management Professional), PE (Professional Engineer), or PgMP certification preferred. Proven experience managing project financials, scheduling, subcontractors, and client relationships. Experience with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Procore, Bluebeam, SAP, or other project management software preferred. Knowledge of OSHA regulations, utility safety practices, environmental compliance, and construction quality standards. Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and organizational skills. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Valid driver's license required. Ability to travel to project sites as required. Work Environment & Schedule Hybrid schedule consisting of approximately 3 days in-office and 2 days remote, based on project and client requirements. Periodic travel to utility sites, substations, construction projects, and client offices required. Ability to work extended hours, weekends, or outage schedules when project demands require.
