Job Description:
Must Have Fiber Outside Plant (OSP) Design & Build experience Experience with: Cisco Nokia Ciena Education & Experience Bachelor//'s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics/Telecommunications Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent work experience combined with relevant technical training/certifications will be considered. Demonstrated experience in telecommunications engineering, with a strong focus on: Outside Plant (OSP) fiber optic network design, and/or Microwave system engineering. Several years of telecom OSP engineering or network design experience in a utility, energy, or similar industry environment. Technical Proficiency in Telecom Systems Extensive knowledge of fiber optic communication systems, including: Fiber cable types Splicing techniques Connectors Aerial and underground OSP construction practices Strong understanding of microwave radio system design and RF engineering principles, including: Path loss calculations Antenna propagation Frequency coordination Experience with packet-based transport networks such as: MPLS Carrier Ethernet Knowledge of traditional TDM systems, including:
SONET/SDH
Digital Cross-Connect Systems (DCS) Channel Banks Solid understanding of IP networking fundamentals and integration with telecom transport networks. Tools & Software Skills Experience with engineering and mapping tools used in telecom and utility network design. Proficiency with GIS platforms such as: ESRI ArcGIS GE Smallworld Experience using CAD tools such as: AutoCAD MicroStation Experience with telecom inventory and database management tools, especially: ConnectMaster Similar OSS (Operational Support Systems) Ability to manage: Telecom assets Fiber routes Circuit records Network documentation Proficient with: Microsoft Office Suite Microsoft Visio Microsoft Teams Knowledge of Standards & Regulations Working knowledge of telecom and utility industry standards and regulations.
Familiarity with:
National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) National Electrical Code (NEC) Understanding of telecommunications standards, including: Telcordia/Bellcore Standards IEEE Communications Standards Industry best practices Ability to design and implement solutions compliant with: Safety regulations Utility policies Regulatory requirements NERC reliability standards for electric utility communications systems Ideal Candidate Background Candidates coming from organizations such as electric utilities, telecom carriers, broadband providers, fiber network operators, or utility communications teams with hands-on OSP fiber design and microwave network engineering experience would be a strong fit.
