NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the National Park Service (NPS). These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP). Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an "at-will" relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.

This opportunity applies to applicants legally eligible to work in the United States. Duration This position is currently funded for up to 1080 total hours.
Duties:
Provide oversight, monitoring and technical assistance for an HVAC upgrade and replacement project at the Martin Van Buren National Historic Site. Working in coordination with HACE and park staff, the enrollee will inspect ongoing work and review project conditions to ensure that any unforeseen issues are properly documented and addressed. by monitoring and inspecting HVAC Upgrade at the park. 60% Inspect and research historic materials as needed to make recommendations to MAT for proper treatment of historic fabric when unforeseen conditions arise. 20% Reports and studies as identified by MAVA and

Qualifications:
Minimum of 10 year(s) of experience in architectural conservation
OR BA/BS
Degree in Historic Preservation, Architectural Conservation, Architectural History, or similar with minimum additional experience of 10 year(s) Significant experience providing guidance on complex historic preservation issues that is professionally competent and in accordance with relevant laws, policies and standards; experience developing and executing multi-disciplinary projects focused on the study, documentation, assessment, treatment and monitoring of archeological sites and historic structures; knowledge of technical and science-based approaches to the documentation and treatment of archeological sites and historic structures; knowledge of traditional building techniques and materials. Experience required with Windows, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams, MS Outlook, MS SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat
Other:
Overnight travel: 2-5 trips of up to two weeks duration
Health and Safety Considerations:
Guidance and training will be provided on-site to ensure that enrollee is fully aware of health and safety considerations (every site is different and will involve different safety precautions and equipment). PPE will be provided, where necessary while on-site inspecting historic buildings
Required Safety Gear:
PPE may include, but is not limited to hard hats, face masks, gloves, safety glasses, and other gear necessary to ensure that the enrollee is prepared to work in varied environments Physical requirements: Ability to walk up to 0.5 mi on unimproved surfaces and walk and climb stairs and ladders through historic structures. Ability to work in varied and extreme environments, work in confined spaces.
