Job Description
Position SummaryThe Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading the planning, design, and delivery of complex Higher Education projects from early programming through construction administration. This role requires strong leadership, client engagement, and technical expertise, with a demonstrated ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and multiple projects concurrently. The position is based in Baltimore, MD and serves regional college and university clients.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Leadership and DeliveryLead all phases of architectural projects including programming, schematic design, design development, construction documents, bidding, and construction administrationManage project scope, schedule, budget, and quality while ensuring alignment with firm standards and client expectationsServe as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, and institutional stakeholdersProactively identify risks and develop mitigation strategies throughout the project lifecycleHigher Education ExpertiseDeliver projects specific to Higher Education campuses including academic buildings, research facilities, student centers, residential halls, and campus renovationsNavigate institutional governance processes, review boards, and capital development standardsCoordinate planning efforts within active campus environments and occupied facilitiesTeam and Consultant ManagementDirect and mentor project teams, fostering collaboration and high performanceCoordinate and manage consultants including structural, MEP, civil, landscape, and specialty disciplinesReview consultant deliverables for accuracy, coordination, and complianceClient Service and Business DevelopmentBuild and maintain strong client relationships through regular communication and trusted advisory supportSupport business development efforts including proposals, interviews, and project pursuitsRepresent the firm in meetings, presentations, and community or campus engagementsTechnical and Regulatory OversightEnsure compliance with applicable codes, zoning ordinances, accessibility standards, and accreditation requirementsOversee document quality control and technical coordination across disciplinesSupport sustainable design goals and institutional standards, including LEED or equivalent frameworks where applicableQualificationsBachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or related fieldProfessional licensure as a Registered Architect preferred10 or more years of architectural project management experience, with a strong emphasis on Higher Education projectsProven experience managing large scale and complex institutional projectsStrong knowledge of building systems, construction documentation, and contract administrationProficiency with industry software including Revit and Microsoft Office; familiarity with project management tools preferredExcellent communication, leadership, and organizational skillsPreferred ExperienceExperience working with colleges or universities in the Mid Atlantic regionFamiliarity with Maryland building codes and local jurisdictional processesExperience leading projects through public or institutional approval processes
