Junior Project Manager Job Description The Junior Project Manager supports a busy project management team in a mechanical construction environment and gradually takes ownership of smaller projects ranging from approximately $50,000 to $250,000. This role focuses on project coordination, documentation, and communication with subcontractors, while offering strong opportunities for professional growth and advancement. Responsibilities Assist project managers with preparing, reviewing, and tracking submittals to ensure accuracy and timely delivery. Support the creation, submission, and follow-up of Requests for Information (RFIs) to clarify project details and resolve issues. Learn and complete daily project reports, documenting progress, issues, and key updates in a clear and organized manner. Coordinate bid-related documentation, including organizing bids coming in and going out and ensuring information is complete and properly logged. Communicate regularly with mechanical subcontractors to coordinate project activities, schedules, and deliverables. Help manage change orders by tracking scope changes, documenting impacts, and assisting with communication to relevant stakeholders. Gradually run smaller mechanical construction projects independently, from coordination through closeout, under the guidance of senior project managers. Maintain organized project files and records, ensuring that all documentation is up to date and easily accessible. Collaborate closely with the project management team and office staff to support smooth project execution and problem-solving. Use technology and project management tools to track tasks, deadlines, and project milestones effectively. Essential Skills Approximately 1-3 years of experience in mechanical construction, preferably with a mechanical contractor or mechanical subcontractor. Hands-on exposure to project management or project coordination in a construction or mechanical construction setting. Working knowledge of RFIs (Requests for Information) and submittals, including their purpose and typical workflows. Ability to assist with and eventually manage smaller projects in the $50,000 to $250,000 range. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, documents, and deadlines simultaneously. Technological proficiency, including comfort using computers and software tools for project documentation and coordination. Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with internal team members and subcontractors. Technically sound understanding of mechanical construction concepts sufficient to support project management activities. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working for a mechanical contractor or mechanical subcontractor. Background in construction management or a related field. Experience supporting change order processes and project documentation workflows. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented office environment. Motivation to grow into greater project responsibility and advance within a project management career path. Work Environment This role is based in an office setting in Hunt Valley, Maryland, working alongside a close-knit team of 4-6 project managers and the full executive team. The environment offers a family feel with frequent daily interaction across all office staff and strong internal collaboration. Work involves extensive use of computers and project management tools to handle bids, RFIs, submittals, and project documentation. The position includes periodic travel to job sites to support field activities and gain hands-on project exposure. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cockeysville, MD. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $26.44 - $28.84/hr.
