Mersino Water Solutions is seeking a highly organized and analytical Project Controls Specialist to support project execution, financial performance, and operational reporting across the organization. This role is responsible for monitoring project costs, schedules, labor utilization, equipment deployment, and overall project performance to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and profitably. The Project Controls Specialist serves as a key partner to Operations, Finance, Project Managers, and Branch Leadership by providing visibility into project health, identifying risks, and driving accountability through accurate reporting and performance metrics. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to transform data into actionable business insights.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
Project Cost & Performance Management Monitor project budgets, forecasts, actual costs, and profitability throughout the project lifecycle. Track labor, equipment, subcontractor, fuel, and material costs against approved budgets. Analyze project variances and provide recommendations to improve financial performance. Assist project teams with cost forecasting, revenue projections, and project closeout activities. Support the development and maintenance of project cost codes and reporting structures. Schedule & Resource Controls Monitor project schedules, milestones, and resource allocation. Identify schedule risks, delays, and resource constraints and communicate findings to project leadership. Track equipment utilization, deployment schedules, and project resource planning. Support operational planning efforts across multiple active projects and branch locations. Reporting & Analytics Develop and maintain project dashboards, scorecards, and KPI reporting. Provide weekly and monthly project performance reports to leadership. Analyze trends related to labor productivity, equipment utilization, project margins, and operational efficiency. Support executive reporting and business reviews through data collection and analysis. Process Improvement & Standardization Assist with the development and implementation of project controls processes and best practices. Drive consistency in project reporting, forecasting, and performance tracking across all branches. Identify opportunities for automation and operational efficiencies. Support continuous improvement initiatives related to project execution and financial performance. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner closely with Operations, Finance, Fleet, Logistics, and Branch Leadership. Support project startup, execution, and closeout activities. Assist with audits, documentation management, and compliance reporting as needed. Serve as a resource for project managers and operational leaders regarding project controls and reporting. Ensure that The Mersino Way is the guiding document in all daily activities
Qualifications:
Specific Bachelor s degree in business, Finance, Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, or related field. 3+ years of experience in project controls, project coordination, financial analysis, operations support, or construction/project management environments. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis. Experience working with ERP, project management, or business intelligence systems. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Preferred Experience supporting industrial, construction, infrastructure, environmental, dewatering, rental, or utility projects. Experience with Power BI, Tableau, RentalMan, Viewpoint, Oracle, SAP, or similar systems. Knowledge of project scheduling, forecasting, earned value management, or cost control methodologies. Lean Six Sigma, PMP, CAPM, or related certifications.
