Overview We are seeking an experienced Capital Project Manager to oversee the successful execution of intermediate to large-scale capital natural gas construction projects throughout Michigan. This role is responsible for managing projects from initiation through closeout, ensuring all work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory requirements. This is a contract opportunity. Hybrid work schedule with in-office attendance required Tuesday through Thursday. Office locations available in Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Big Rapids, Michigan. Weekly travel to project sites across Michigan is required. The successful candidate will possess an active Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and extensive experience applying Waterfall project management methodologies to complex capital construction, infrastructure, or utility projects. Key Responsibilities Develop project scope and coordinate multidisciplinary teams responsible for project scheduling, cost estimating, engineering specifications, and execution. Manage all phases of capital projects, including engineering, design, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, and project closeout. Oversee project expenditures and ensure cost-effective procurement of labor, materials, equipment, and services. Participate in bid meetings, contractor evaluations, supplier selection processes, and contracting strategy development. Support and monitor daily construction activities, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and within approved budgets. Track and manage project performance metrics, including scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety. Communicate project status, risks, and milestones to stakeholders and leadership teams. Collaborate with internal departments, contractors, vendors, suppliers, trade labor organizations, and regulatory agencies. Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies to support successful project delivery. Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements. Maintain accurate project documentation, reporting, and recordkeeping. Conduct weekly site visits to active project locations throughout Michigan. Required Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Architecture, Construction Management, Project Management, Business Management, or a related field. Minimum of six (6) years of project management experience managing capital construction, infrastructure, utility, industrial, or energy-related projects. Active Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. Demonstrated experience leading projects utilizing Waterfall project management methodologies, including project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and controlling, and project closeout. Experience managing project scope, schedule, budget, procurement, stakeholder communications, risk management, and change control processes. Ability to travel regularly to project sites throughout Michigan. Preferred Qualifications Natural gas design and construction project management experience. Utility industry operations experience. Experience managing large-scale capital infrastructure projects. Familiarity with utility regulatory and environmental compliance requirements. Knowledge of relevant regulations governing utility infrastructure projects at local, state, or federal levels. Technical Skills Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Experience using project scheduling and enterprise systems such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, SAP, and Maximo. Strong understanding of project controls, budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, cost management, and earned value management principles.
