Job Description

Job Summary:
The Project Coordinator is a full-time position responsible for coordinating, planning, and implementing mission experiences for both religious and non-religious volunteers that focus on addressing safe and healthy housing needs of those in Clay and the surrounding counties. Our mission is for this experience to be one of transformation for our volunteers as well as one that impacts those we serve. To be successful in this position, the individual must be enthusiastic, high-energy, and willing to share their spiritual journey with volunteers. This position does not have regular work hours and hours are intense, particularly in the summer months. The Project Coordinator is responsible for working with local volunteers and skilled folks in the procurement, assessment, worksite planning, and completion of worksites/tasks. The Project Coordinator assists the Minister of Mission Outreach & Engagement in the solicitation and training of summer staff and supervises summer staff work as it relates to worksites. The Project Coordinator works alongside the Mission Outreach Neighbor & Engagement Specialist for assessment and education purposes for safe and healthy housing.
Essential Functions:
Work with local skilled folks to seek out, evaluate, and develop worksite plans for volunteer teams
  • ensuring that worksite is safe and appropriate for volunteers.
Work with adult leaders and Hinton Staff to continually develop a welcoming program appropriate to the participants, beneficial to those we serve, and in fulfillment of Hinton's mission. Works in conjunction with the Minister of Mission Outreach & Engagement to oversee Safe & Healthy Housing. Makes decisions to purchase quality construction materials at the most economical prices and stays within budget. Ensure materials are ordered and delivered to sites so that the volunteer crews are on task and not waiting for supplies to arrive. Update worksite records reflecting work that has been accomplished and work yet to be completed including a record of project costs remaining within budget. In conjunction with the Minister of Mission Outreach & Engagement, solicit, interview, and hire summer staff. In conjunction with the Minister of Mission Outreach & Engagement, develop and implement summer staff training program that promotes safety and inclusion of all volunteers and homeowners if appropriate in regards to home repair projects. Safely and legally operate vehicle to meet with clients and/or community agencies as needed. Works in conjunction with the Manager of Building and Grounds to maintain a system to organize tools in the tool shed, maintaining upkeep, and safety logs as appropriate. Maintains an up to date knowledge of construction and safety requirements for all jobs to be performed. Share this knowledge with site leaders as appropriate. Supervises direct reports in a professional manner aligned with values of Hinton Center. Providing clear instruction and timely, honest feedback. Annually, complete a performance review and meet with employee(s) individually, presenting an accurate reflection of their performance including areas to improve. Trains and designates site leaders to break down all supplies and tools at end of workday inspecting for safety issues and securing items to prevent theft or inappropriate use of tools as well as exposure to inclement weather. Recruits and trains local volunteers to oversee sites. Help with developing mentors for young people. Daily inspects tools and takes tools out of service that are malfunctioning and/or present a safety issue in any way. Regularly, instructs volunteers and employees on safe operating procedures and provides appropriate personal protective equipment for use. Maintains current first aid and CPR. Maintains a positive image in the community reflecting values and ethics of Hinton. Collects and maintains up to date MSDS information sheets on all chemicals stored in the tool shed and/or used on worksites, so that proper first aid instructions are readily available. (Include this in training with summer staff and mission volunteers). Works with the Mission Outreach Neighbor & Engagement Specialist to coordinate components and use of mobile teaching unit. Works with the Mission Outreach Neighbor & Engagement Specialist to coordinate educational tool barn information and workshops, as needed. Helps to recruit and oversee volunteers of Hinton. One of Hinton Center's members of the Coalition of Home Repairs. Ensures safe and healthy homes checklists are being completed and data is being collected. Active member of Hinton's Safety Team participating in training, following safety procedures, and encouraging a safe work environment at all times Maintains a safe work environment for themselves, colleagues, and guests. Promotes a positive work environment by treating all co-workers and guests with dignity and respect. And follows the chain of command to foster efficient and effective communication.
Secondary Functions:
Serve as a resource leader for Hinton training, consultation, and other events. Serve as a resource person for retreat groups as needed or requested. Help with campus repairs and maintenance as time allows. Answer Hinton's multiline phone with a cordial greeting identifying the name of the organization, and asking how they may assist the caller. Assists with firewood ministry as needed.
